Outside in the dark

Outside in the dark
on a beautiful night
looking up at the heavens
one can feel the longing in the air
I hear the cicadas and the distant hum of traffic
but it doesn't disguise the potential for more
I hardly ever sit outside in my courtyard at night for
the beauty is almost too painful to sit in alone
no one else is interested I guess!
but, it tends to make me think of sleeping under the stars and
that's almost too much to bear when no one else cares to
I imagine that's the appeal of stepping outside to smoke some nights
I remember my grandparents sitting together in their chairs on the patio on summer nights
I'd see the glowing cigarette tips and hear them softly talking together
it's being out IN it
the night air
the beauty!
one can be happy during the day
but, there's so much potential in that evening air
I wonder why so few people notice?

Very nice. And I'm with you there. So quiet, so beautiful. Good Job!

Yes! Similar thoughts the other night while I gazed upwards...it was cold, I was barefoot, waiting for my dog to do his business. He had longed finished and was waiting for me at the gate by the time I stopped staring into the clear night sky and Orion's belt. Well done!
