Zagreb Remembers

Today is the 5th anniversary of the 2006 Zagreb show, definitely one of the best shows of the tour, and if you ask us that were there, the best show ever! :D

We're still waiting for PJ to return, still discussing the show at "Pearl Jam in Zagreb" thread :D and since the 2007 tour whenever there's some Croatian at the show we're showing them one particular sign that says "Zagreb Remembers". It happened at least 20-30 times at shows all around the world and it's now happening in Canada where some of our friends were at the last 4 shows of the tour (it helped that they won the front row lottery twice  )

So, we were thrilled to see today, as we celebrate our anniversary, that yesterday Ed took a note of the sign at the Vancouver show!
25. Olé
{Ed asks for a show of hands of those from Seattle. He mentions some people in the front few rows that are just standing there and wishes he could give those seats to the folks in the back "losing their minds". He takes note of sign that says 'Zagreb Remembers'}

Here's to the next 20 years of our band and hopefully another epic show in Croatia!

Gordan: First of all, happy anniversary to all fellow Croatian PJ fans. :D Well, what a week this has been. I was allready blown up after the Calgary show and even than I thought that was worth a trip from Croatia to Canada. And guess what, Edmonton was even better. I thought that nothing can beat that. Until Vancouver. To get such a great setlist and to get recognition from Eddie (TWICE!). Zagreb Remembers sign traveled the world and will keep traveling. Thanks to Iva and Pajo who made it and let us have it for this short Canadian Tour. What amazed me the most is the fact that for the Calgary and Edmonton shows the sign was in the 1st row, right in front the band, and Eddie's recognition came when we had to take it to row 13 in the stands in Vancouver.
Thank you again PJ for amazing three shows. We will keep on rocking and following you with that sign around the world. We would love to see you again in Zagreb. But you know that, don't you? :)
  • I can't link any photos so I'm just gonna post my album from Zagreb :)
Happy anniversary and hope we see everyone in Croatia SOON! ;)

    Happy anniversary indeed!!!

If there is one show in PJ history I wish I could have made...... It's this one!

I'm optimistic they shall play in beatiful Croatia again one day. Maybe even 2 shows in a row ;)

    Perfect show yesterday!!!
So grateful to Eddie for acknowledging the sign, thanks to pajo for making it and religiously carrying it around and letting Dirty Frankk and us carry it to Canada :)
Thanks to Sea for making a note about it on the official Vancouver fanviews thread!
And thanks to Nothings Changed for making this Canadian mini tour even more special – you were such an awesome host!!!

The show in Zagreb was, although not my first, a turning point for me. It made me wish seeing every possible concert. Thanks to it, we met so many great people, we visited great places. Each trip makes all the work during the year worthwhile.

Zagreb was a dream-coming-true of a show and yesterday was almost as good!
It would have been perfect had it been played in Zagreb, in front of the Zagreb’s crowd!

    Come back!!!

It’s so nice to have all of your support and also love for Croatia. Thank you!
so i guess we'll have to do , not a petition like thing, but some promotional thing with possible venues and get people to say " yes i would love that" or " I’ll come there" to show how much interest is there for it.
Cause while watching imagine in cornice you get the idea it would be great to have some mini tour like that again and Croatia would be perfect for that. We have beautiful new arenas, old roman amphitheater and some great summer festivals, one of which is just up the PJ's alley- it celebrates music, ecology, sun, sea and land and it's held right at the beach

But first of all, yeah, the wave machine is a must!
    Man, I love to dream

Arena Pula is the best venue, I've been saying it for years! Like Arena di Verona only smaller.

Iva: maybe if we show them what a rough day at the office looked like for The National, who headlined the festival this year: http://instagr.am/p/KCvBT/ :D
Add a wave machine and we're all set!

Just one more quick thought...I was listening to the Zagreb bootleg again and still am amazed with the setlist...it was a great mix of hits and rarities and just the perfect PJ setlist

I mean, they played Black, Alive, Better Man, Jeremy, Porch, Evenflow, Corduroy, Do The Evolution, GTF, Small Town, RITFW, YL all in one show, in front of this crazy loud crowd mostly filled with people seeing them for the first time...and then the hardcore fans got such a rarities which they played only handful of times after the Zagreb show like All Or None (played only once), Thumbing My Way (2 times), Thin Air (3 times), Education (5), Army Reserve (6) and Gimme Some Truth (still to be played again)...absolutely mind-blowing  ;)
  • it was amazing show. amazing crowd. perfect day. :)

    thank you, all!

    and yes. come back ;)
All is well in all of creation, therefore, let’s have a celebration!

Hahaha, I always roll my eyes when I listen to that boot and Ed says: This is a number you might now know...uhm, its a Lost Dog. And then they start EDUCATION! And I was like: WTF??? Are you serious??? lol
Of course, a casual fan wouldn't know it, but most of us did that night :)

Gordan: It would be fun to hear from our fellow 10c members who were in Zagreb what memories they have about that epic day. So, please, share them with us. It will make us very happy and maybe it would help us to bring back Pearl Jam, at least for one show, if not for the whole Croatian Tour, from Osijek to Dubrovnik.

Nema veze. Evo malo sređujem fotke s putovanja, pa mislim da je ovo dobra prigoda za vratit ovaj topic na prvu stranicu. Evo kako je sign putovao Kanadom.

    Great pics guys

Way to represent on the Canadian tour!!! I am a proud Croatian-American who loves when Croatia gets a little spotlight. I have recommended Croatia as a vacation spot to so many over the years and not a single soul has come back without a giant smile on their face.

We need to get a couple of shows there during the next European tour. We need a joint effort to get the word back to management. I'm sure they would welcome the positive sentiment after all the merch crying

    Keep hope Alive

EDIT: Traslation for our non-croatian speaking friends:
Obviously, people didn't take me serious when I asked them to share their experience from Zagreb show. :(
It doesn't matter. I am going through the pictures from Canada so this is a good chance to get this topic back to the first page. This is our sign's journey through Canada:

It was beautiful while it lasted and while everything was in PRESENT TENSE.

  • My wife and I were at that Zagreb show. "Gimme Some Truth" was played for our mate Matt from Texas, who'd been carrying a big sheet around Europe with "Gimme Some Truth" written on it. It's still the first and only time I've ever heard "All or None" live. It was my final 2006 show (I did 13). And the city of Zagreb is amazing, except for the graffiti. We spent 4 days in Zagreb. It was wonderful.
    My Pearl Jam shows: 1 in 1995, 2 in 1998, 20 in 2003, 13 in 2006, 3 in 2007, 8 in 2008, 5 in 2009, 4 in 2010, 5 in 2012. EV: 8 in 2011, 1 in 2012. Brad: 1 in 1998, 1 in 2002.

I remember Randall telling us the story about Zagreb and the graffiti at some airport during the 2009 tour and thinking that's maybe a little bit exaggerated, but he was so right...after that I started taking notice about it and really, lot of the old buildings in the city centre are ruined with these stupid "graffiti" (more like pointless doodles)...but glad you liked it regardless, it is a beautiful city ;)

And yes, we remember that guy with "Gimme Some Truth" sign, he was standing right next to us in the front row and we were all soo happy when Ed said they're going to play it for him...

Gordan: Hey Randall and Darcy, good to hear that you loved Zagreb and that your friend Matt got his wish granted. I doubt that I will ever hear STRANGEST TRIBE. That would be my request.
Hope that you'll be back for that show that they will play next year on the European Tour. :D They have to come back.
  • I'd be back to Zagreb no problems. A friend from Australia has Croation parents and he told us to try this Croation kinda flat sausage thing-I used to know the name of it, but I've forgotten now-you get it in take out places and such. Kind of reminded me of Scottish square sausage. I lived on it in Zagreb-it was gorgeous. I loved that city. Have lots of photos, too.
