yes. no matter how much i've heard it, it still remains just as great as the very first time.
I died. I died and you just stood there. I died and you watched. I died and you walked by and said no. I'm dead.
  • ouch i think not

stairway is overrated. the 3 guitar assault in freebird is better then the solo in stairway to.

  • I don't think that Stairway can be compared to these other songs, it is such a classic that you cannot even begin to disect it negatively.

It is amazing every time that i listen to it.

No offence to Freebird either though guys ;)

    Tribute

This is the greatest and best song in the world... Tribute.

Long time ago me and my brother Kyle here,
we was hitchhikin' down a long and lonesome road.
All of a sudden, there shined a shiny demon... in the middle... of the road.
    And he said:

"Play the best song in the world, or I'll eat your soul." (soul)
    [spoken]
Well me and Kyle, we looked at each other,
    and we each said... "Okay."

And we played the first thing that came to our heads,
    Just so happened to be,
The Best Song in the World, it was The Best Song in the World.

Look into my eyes and it's easy to see
One and one make two, two and one make three,
    It was destiny.
Once every hundred-thousand years or so,
When the sun doth shine and the moon doth glow
    And the grass doth grow...

Needless to say, the beast was stunned.
    Whip-crack went his schwumpy tail,
    And the beast was done.
He asked us: "(snort) Be you angels?"
And we said, "Nay. We are but men."
    Rock!
    Ahhh, ahhh, ahhh-ah-ah,
    Ohhh, whoah, ah-whoah-oh!

This is not The Greatest Song in the World, no.
    This is just a tribute.
Couldn't remember The Greatest Song in the World, no, no.
This is a tribute, oh, to The Greatest Song in the World,
All right! It was The Greatest Song in the World,
All right! It was the best muthafuckin' song the greatest song in the world.

gee, ooh de flliga goo gee ooga fligoo giggoo ooh fligoo giggoo ge gee oogah
goo gee oogah geegoogegegee, fligoo giggoo,oh flig, oh mama Lucifer

And the peculiar thing is this my friends:
the song we sang on that fateful night it didn't actually sound
    anything like this song.

This is just a tribute! You gotta believe me!
And I wish you were there! Just a matter of opinion.
Ah, fuck! Good God, God lovin',
So surprised to find you can't stop it.

    All right! All right!
I need a fix 'cause I'm going down

Well if you listened to to version on the link it wasn't that clear but they do play the part under the solo from stairway.I didn't notice it until my keyboard player(I love acting like I own him) pointed it out to me. I always thought it was their joke as Stairway is "The greatest song in the world" but that is just a tribute.

  • It is an amazing song. Only thing better than the original are the various live versions where Jimmy Page throws in lots of extra fills and notes in the arpeggios.

I wish my zeppelin CD's weren't on the other side of the planet right now.

I saw Mike McCready doing his stairway solo in Crazy Mary in Brisbane two years ago. It was amazing. Best version of crazy mary I've heard ever. It was the first time they had Boom on the organ too.

  • Am I the only person in the world that doesn't like "Stairway to Heaven"? When I was 13 or 14, and just getting into Zeppelin, I heard the song for the first time, realized it was apparently one of the greatest songs of all time, if not the greatest, and I was honestly let down the first time I heard "Stairway". I was told it was a song that could change my life, or at least my view on music. Boy, was I ever let down. These days, I change the radio station if it is playing, or skip the song on if I am playing the CD. I guess I just never got it. I'm not trying to bring people down on this song, but it was never that great to me.
