I remember that snippet in Rolling Stone awhile back, where it said the band was considering unique releasing options for the new record.

While following in Radiohead's footsteps wouldnt be new, could you see them doing that?

Do you think one of these days we will be on the board and Kat will say, "the new record is out in 2 weeks"?

I think Pearl Jam has the clout to do so, however don't they have a deal with Epic still? Radiohead didn't want to sign a record contract so they just did it themselves. I thought Pearl Jam is still under contract

I dont know if the J Records contract with Avocado was just for 1 album or not. I seem to remember hearing they would release this album on their own label.

That is a good possibility. However, I think they might do both(audio download and release a hard copy)...sort of like their bootlegs.

I still think it's totally feasible to do a multi-tiered release package.. my suggestions:
    1. CD pre-order with (free) immediate digital download
    2. LP pre-order with (free) immediate digital download
    3. Combo pack, including CD, LP, bonus live show CD or DVD, and (free) immediate digital download.

I think they should just do what Nine Inch Nails did and just give it to you for free if you are a Ten Club Member. I know that doesn't make much business sense, but Ten Club members have bought enough trinkets and other things from the band for 15 years, that a download of the album would be a nice gesture. Then, offer a physical copy at a later date that we would all still probably purchase otherwise.

Radiohead charged .99 cents regardless of what you paid them, then offered a Special Edition and Physical CD's at a later date (which still made it to #1).

Agreed. The sad reality is that most people will find a way to have the digital copy for free, whether it's through legitimate channels or not. I know I will - and I also know I'll be paying for it on vinyl.

This would be sweet. Also, I hope we get a double double abum/CD!!!

I believe PJ's only comment (from memory, so I'm not 10000% sure) was that PJ was watching the Radiohead model with interest.

Didn't Radiohead's model go bust though, with the name-your-price download of it? I mean, it totally makes sense for PJ to self release at this point, then when they sell all they can directly to their existing fanbase, then offer a record company a deal for in-store sales to attract new sales, which is what I believe Radiohead did.

OR what they should do is up the price of their TC membership by $10 a person and everytime a new album comes out, you get a deluxe version of it free. They're making $10 additional every year (which on the wholesale level is a lot to go directly to the artist) and we're all getting a bargain.

    they can do both...
Wouldn't it be cool if morning of June 1st 10c announces the album is available for download right there and then (on its own or with hard copy pre-order, to be received in September or whatever)

That actually would be incredible! Talk about a "holy shit" moment!

Conan and Pearl Jam is like Cracker Jack's and Baseball. Seperate they are phenomenal, but together they create magic so beautiful that even Satan himself gets little butterflies anticipating the arrival.

I thought of that as soon as I heard that they'll be playing new songs on June 1st.
I wondered if they'll be releasing it more quickly than we expect. :ugeek:
