I'm sat in a PR's hotel room at The Edgewater listening to the new Pearl Jam record - a release form I've just signed means that I can't tell you the song titles, while it doesn't even have a name yet. Yet what I can tell you, it's that it's ever, ever so punchy. Eddies vocals sound more honeyed than raspy and there's a ballad stuck right in the middle that's just him and a guitar, but is absolutely drenched in strings. There's hardly any guitar leads either - personally I'm a fan of that anti-alt-rock thing* and I'd like to see them bust some more of that stuff out. But as collections of garage-y rock go, it's not like you miss them...

( *What I mean by that, is that I never cared much about all the accusations that Pearl Jam were corporate cock rock - I always liked them because they were corporate cock rock (not that a band who've spent all but two of their years trying to sabotage their status as one of the biggest rock bands on the face of the planet could be described thus anymore). Just as some of my favourite music is righteous indie rock - Fugazi, Beat Happening, Bikini Kill - some of my favourite music - AC/DC, Rage Against The Machine, Guns 'N Roses - is corporate cock rock. It's a genre I most definitely enjoy...)

Y'know, it's hard to make sense of records when you've only heard them once, and the view from the hotel window (sea, seabirds, boats and far off mountains) is kinda distracting - I wonder what it'll sound like on a wet, shitty morning in east London? But while I'd like to hear it again - aye, first impressions are promising.

Not to be too negative here, but I'm really not believing the source of the information here. Every time a new album is on the horizon, no matter who the band is, there always seems to be someone who has "officially" heard it, but cannot verify anything due to contract requirements. Again, not trying to sound like a prick, but I need more to go on before I buy-in to this.

This was posted yesterday. This guy is an editor at NME, an actual (and fairly respected) British music magazine. He's legit.

Also, what are we not believing here? It's not like he really spilled the beans on much of anything. All he did was offer a few generic comments. It's not like he wrote, "Matt Cameron sings on 6 of 13 tracks" or anything like that.

I am curious if he heard all the songs, or just 5-6 of them so far. They may still be working out which ones are going to be on the final albulm.

Ah okay, I wasn't really sure how legit this was. I only had a chance to breeze through the article right quick and perhaps I posted too quickly. I guess I was more caught by surprised that someone actually heard something finished considering it's so early in the game. But I'm glad to hear that they're closer to finishing the album. Again, I really wasn't trying to be a prick. Damn dude, take it easy.

This is a great point. I wouldn't put it past the band at all to deliver a list of current candidates and then finally change things up for the final release. Can't wait til it comes out, but boys... lets get back to the million B-sides released with each single, alright? We know you've got them. ;)

Means nothing right now. There were a few early "reviews" of Avocado that said the same thing but there are tons of leads there.

    agreed!

i thought the band was still waiting on the final mix and such in any case? so what may've been heard, definitely not the final cut. at least from snippets i've gleamed from all over the board from various bandmember's comments. i mean, if it was all DONE...i cannot imagine why a late fall - as per mike - release. wonder if it will come sooner.....?
    Stay with me...
    Let's just breathe...
