How long do you think it will take some shithead to steal the new PJ album?

I say it's out before the end of June. I hope the boys are keeping this under lock and key where only THEY have a copy.

Piracy sucks!

The fact that they're not using a label means that the tracks will be in fewer people's hands, which is probably a good thing. I heard something very interesting about what a band (I can't recall which) did, in which all the copies laying around had either a silent point in each track, where the times the silences came up were noted, so that people could tell who leaked it, or a certain frequency (inaudible, but viewable with software) was included.

Thats pretty cool. I never heard of that before.

If you guys had a leaked copy, would you listen to it or wait for the release? I would have a hard time not listening to it. LOL Obviously. But if the quality wasnt that good. I would definitely wait. The same thing happened to me with the self titled album. The copy I had wasnt the greatest quality. But I listened to it anyway. I told myself I would never do that again. It totally ruined the experience of listening to a new Pearl Jam album for the 1st time.

If I were the only one to have the leaked copy, I would wait. My problem, however, is when a lot of people have it, like with self-titled in 2006, and talk all about it on the forums. Then...I can't resist.

Right, but like I said, if the quality is really bad, it can ruin the experience of that first listen. But if the quality is good, its almost impossible. Quality is of the up most importance pertaining to leaks.

It will leak early. There's no way to stop it unless there are no physical copies being sold.

I'm saying that wouldn't stop me, unfortunately. If people are listening to and talking about new Pearl Jam songs, I have to hear them.

I personally take the blame for hating avacado and base it on the fact i downloaded the leak. I shouldn't have.
The hurt became insult and further, injury, when I finally got it and the hate was sealed by the awful artwork. My fault. Won't be doing that again.

wow, seems like a riduclious way to keep track of your stuff, like they should put more work into actually releasing the thing instead of protecting it... Sounds like a Metallica move imo haha, no offense directed at Metallica fans.

either way i hope we have a new album soon!
Wouldn't it be funny if the world ended in 2010, with lots of fire?

It seems that every album gets leaked these days, so it wouldnt surprise me if the new PJ was leaked. But maybe the chances of being leaked are less since they'll be self-releasing the album. I dont remember if the new NIN or Radiohead that were self-released were leaked at all????

I sure as hell hope it doesnt get leaked. Id be very tempted to listen to it, but I doubt I would.

The Radiohead record was not leaked because if you remember the band made the announcement that a new record will be released in 7 days! Everyone will have it in 7 days if they want and it was also a pay what you want Digital release... Which I thought was a brilliant idea at that time! They also had a preorder of the physical album at the same time they made the digital release available!

who cares?? its the bands prob, not ours, they have to find ways to deal with that, along with
    any other "big selling" band...

99.9 percent of pj fans would prob give it a early listen

I always thought they should do that. It would be so easy to say "ah, 784000 mhz that must be Brian".

I was one of those Nielsen ratings homes, where whatever I watched counted for 40,000 households... they ran wires everywhere, and hardwired wires to all of my TVs and receivers. 3 or 4 years later when I moved and they were removing all the wires I asked why they didn't just have all the TV stations bury a high frequency, so you can just meter the signal that way - and sure enough, they said they will soon be doing exactly that. :)

I agree. I can't say that I'm innocent - there have been bands that I've not been into, and a friend burned a disc which has gotten me into them. But like with the radiohead "name your price" for In_Rainbows, I paid $12 usd for that, since that is a fair price. I didn't pay $17, but I wasn't getting the packaging either.

I think that the HUGE price increases in concert tickets is to make up for lost revenue from piracy... and the main people who get screwed are people who buy the album, and buy the expensive concert tickets.

Just to play devil's advocate here - are the ticket prices as high as they are to compensate for all the pirated content, or is the content pirated because of the high ticket prices? Either way, I was under the impression that record sale profits for band members are minimal in comparison to the money to be made from a tour.

    Wait, you think... No... Maybe?...

You think those who mugged Jeff and got a hold of his laptop have the whole new album on wave files?!!!
    :o
Maybe this is why it is being released earlier than originally planed.

I imagine that anyone stealing in that fashion is only interested in items for hock. A rudimentary password would keep them out of the files. Should we even mention the "M" word? It'll probably get this thread deleted or locked.

I imagine that anyone stealing in that fashion is only interested in items for hock. A rudimentary password would keep them out of the files. Should we even mention the "M" word? It'll probably get this thread deleted or locked.

I usually consider myself way over-educated on PJ misc info, but now I am trying to guess this M you speak of? Movie? Mookie? mike McCready? Muffin?

    Wait, you think... No... Maybe?...

You think those who mugged Jeff and got a hold of his laptop have the whole new album on wave files?!!!
    :o
Maybe this is why it is being released earlier than originally planed.

Muffin! Muffin muffin muffin muffin !!

    So liberating...
Well... Kidding aside... I remember when Avo leaked and I held back really really well until Letterman and the first three came out. Until the Astoria show I still hadn't heard anything more. I love how I kept humming Comatose on the flight back and waited to get my CD in the mail, International time.

Be strong people - It's always worth the wait!

I think that the severe trend of tickets began sometime after Napster began... chicken, then egg. :)

Bands have made the majority of their money from touring practically forever, but well known bands still make plenty to survive.

Ticket prices are higher b/c of a combination higher cost of touring and greed.
