Seriously. They ask to vote on what we think the best versions of songs are, well they didn't even offer the best versions for some of them. I know they want to keep it with current, so no 1992 boots. But here are my findings

The Best Versions of Alive are as follows
1) Milan 2006
2) London Ontario 2005
3) Saskatoon 2005

those are the 3 best, all others basically mimic eachother. Good, but not on the level of these.

The Best Versions of Black are:
1)Milan 2006
2)Montreal 2005
3)Cleveland 2006

those are the 3 very best, the ones offered don't even come close to comparing to any of these 3.

The Best Versions of RVM are
1. Berlin 2006
2. San Diego 2006

The Best Version of Wishlist is London, Ontario 2005. There isn't even a 2nd place. It's the best version they have done. No politics, nothing towards the end, they just play it out nicely without Ed improving

That's it. It's bullshit though that these songs are not even in the contest. They are the best. If you take the time to listen to them you will hear what I hear. I'm not making it up, I don't claim to be an expert, and these are not shows I attended (except Cleveland 2006) so I'm impartial.

I don't think the negative title is needed, but I agree that the limited options are less than desirable. Perhaps the band chose those shows in particular?

Even though I'm being biased, the best version of RVM I've heard since the early days is Washington D.C. 2008. Just a blazing performance.
    00: Va Beach, 03: Bristow, 04: Reading, 05: Atlantic City 2x
06: Camden, Washington DC, 08: Va Beach, Washington DC
    09: Philly 2+3, 10: Bristow, 11: East Troy PJ20 1+2, 13: Baltimore, Charlottesville

    .
I just wrote it to get people fired up. Plus I knew if I wrote it like that people would read the thread

But I'm 100% honest on the versions I mentioned. They are all awesome. RVM is the one I'm not 100% sure I have the best list of. But I have Black and Alive nailed

The Wishlist improvs are typically among the best part of any given Pearl Jam show.

dont let it keep you up at night, is the fact that you dont have a choice for each individual song in itself really not good enough!?

well I think in the context of being put in a game a non improv would be best. I think it might be difficult to gather your friends around and mimic the drunken lyrics about how much Eddie hates Bush or wishes he lived in Canada

Um, have you played Rock Band? Because sober Rock Band doesn't even to compare to the fun you can have when you've got a bunch of friends around and you're all impaired and singing along etc... good fun. I, for one, CAN'T WAIT to mimic Eddie's drunken anti-Bush lyrics.

I have to ask some of you though... How come whenever someone criticizes the band there is this army of Pearl Jam fans that take offense to it? They will never admit when the band could have done differently, or they have an area in which it's fair to criticize. You act as if they can do no wrong. They ask us to vote on the best live versions of songs, and the best live versions are no available to vote- I pointed that out. It's not that big of a deal to me, I just pointed it out and for whatever reason some people took offense to it becuase the band can do no wrong.

I'd have to guess that the band gave the options they wanted out there, and we are to "choose" from those.

They probably needed to use more recent recordings due to each instrument needing it's own separate input, for the game to work with... if it were not for that, I would be upset their early stuff like SOLAT and such weren't included.

...again, I think the band chose which songs from which dates to use.

Taste is never 'impartial'. Always subjective. Each and everyone of us will have their own opinion of which is the best version of a song, all with very valid points made for the reason behind the choice.

I'm guessing there is a reason for the options given...

Have you ever heard Black and Alive from Milan? Just listen to it and you can hear the difference. They are light years ahead of the others. Easily the best versions of those 2 songs. Alive is the version they used in IIC

You know, I had a quick look at the whole thing and couldn't believe how many songs, then versions of those songs there were for a little fan vote thing.

Not only do I really think that you should be more grateful and see things a little more trivially, but if you are so sure of your 'best picks' that are so undoubtedly the best - there would be no need for a vote would there?

I should be more appreciative they are putting work into something they will turn around and ask me to spend money on? Why do people put Pearl Jam on this level above criticism where everything they do is the greatest ever. PJ is a business, we shouldn't just be appreciative they are operating. That would be the case if they gave us everything for free. I'm appreciative of a sweater my grandma gets me for a present, I'm not appreciative for Nordstrom for stocking the shelves with sweaters I can buy from them.

Like I said, I'm calmed down. This wasn't meant to piss anyone off by suggesting differing opinions on your lords and saviors. I'm half heatedly joking around, but there is truth in the fact that they are asking for "The Best Live Versions" and they didn't even offer the best live versions. I pointed that out and people are telling me to be appreciative. If I buy a Ferrari and I go to take delivery and they give me a Dodge Dart should I be appreciative they gave me a car? It's the same thing. They are asking us to vote on the best and offering a bunch of Dodge Darts when there are Ferraris out there for the taking.

doubtful...alive and solat from ditp were used as bonus tracks for rock band and i also have live thin lizzy tracks from the 70s for rock band so i don't think it has anything to do with the age of the recording.
If nothing is everything, I'll have it all

Your Ferrari and Dodge Dart comparison is ridiculous. Obviously A Ferrari is a much superior car than a Dodge Dart. But, the live versions of PJ songs that you deem legendary could be shit to someone else. What someone else thinks is great, you could think is shit.

Amen. You've gotta love this fanbase... Pearl Jam announces a Rock Band game. That's not awesome - they're sellouts. Pearl Jam gives fans the opportunity to essentially make the setlist (a first for the Rock Band franchise) and gives them a pretty damn big selection to choose from - a pretty damn big selection? Why not everything? Give it a rest, people
