What did Eddie use to create the Momma son vocal demo?

I don't know how he recorded it, but it was a Merle Haggard cassette wasn't it? He's the only artist I can find with a song titled 'A friend in california'...

It sounds like he transferred Gossard's demo to Track 1 of a 4-track cassette recorder (possibly just the channel with Gossard's guitar, since Mike can barely be heard) and then he added a lead vocal (with reverb effects) to Track 2 and some backing vocals and effects to tracks 3 & 4. Then he dubbed it down to a regular stereo cassette, mixing Tracks 1 & 2 center and panning around Tracks 3 & 4. Then he dubbed off copies to give to Stone & Jeff.
