OK> i am really computer illiterate so bear with me. I am getting DSL so will be cancelling AOL. My son is worried that he won't have his buddy list anymore if I do that but isn't AIM free? will he lose his buddy list if I cancel AOL? thanks for any help. I have called AOL before but it is really hard for me to communicate with them!

Your buddy list should be saved even if you cancel AOL. You just have to download the separate AIM service. Just to be sure that you'll still have the list, before you cancel your AOL, tell your son to log on and save his buddy list. On AIM all you have to do is click My AIM -> Save Buddy List and it'll save a copy of the list onto your computer. Then, after you've downloaded and installed AIM, just load the buddy list you saved onto the computer.
this board is too crazy for me these days...

You should also have your son change his password, after he signs up for the instant messenger (not on AOL) before you cancel AOL.
