It is all about ticket prices. Pearl Jam will never be in the top 10 because they don't charge the outrageous prices some other bands do.
so if the stones pull in 437 mil, how much do you think goes to tour costs and what do you think they take home out of that?

i love that song. I think riot act and pearl jam are the two best albums they've come out with since vitalogy. I'll even say that I like the new one better than all of the others besides 10.

what's your opinion of No Code, Yield and Binaural?

Ten that second one and Pearl Crap all suck

    The rest are brilliant
    I'm a fan

Pearl Jam came in at No 14 on Pollstars mid year report with $17.2m gross sales and 330,197 tix sold. Not bad work considering PJ's ticket prices was around the $50 mark unlike the majority of the top ten with the exception being Coldplay who I'd think would be in a similar price range to PJ,

Out of the 38 shows, I've managed to find out 15 we're confirmed sell outs and 9 possible sell outs, with the other 14 no information available.

The list below ranks the top 50 artists by gross in millions of U.S. dollars, indicated in bold. The number following the artist's name is the total number of tickets sold by the artist in the first six months of 2006.

    They're in the money

    Posted by Patrick MacDonald

Pearl Jam grossed more than $17,200,000 in ticket sales for the first 21 shows of its current 32-show U.S. tour (which concludes this weekend at the Gorge), according to the mid-year tour report (Jan. 1 to June 30) of Pollstar, a concert-industry trade magazine. With an average gross of over $1.1 million a show, the final tally will probably exceed $30,000,000. All but a small percentage of that money goes to the band. And that doesn't count merchandise sales, or the upcoming European/Australian leg. So far, it's the 14th highest-grossing concert tour of the year.

wow man harsh criticism...maybe you should take your business to the Dave Mathews message board. there people can not care about your opinion while talking about a band no one cares about.

so if the stones pull in 437 mil, how much do you think goes to tour costs and what do you think they take home out of that?

Approximately 25% of the gross goes to the four "main" Rolling Stones. We (true stones fans) are happy to see the Stones winning gross, but now that Michael Cohl and "Live Nation" now works with U2.....its only a matter of time before the evil Bono takes over the award (as long as "The Edge" doesnt get frustrated with "evil Bono" and quit the group) as they really are the only one that has a shot at playing that many shows at top dollar.

Pearl Jam did very respectable, 35 million is a great number in the Live Music market, particularly with their low overhead when compared to the "Big Four" (U2, Macca (also evil), Barbra (odd, isnt it?), and The Rolling Stones) all being out on the road within a year or two of each other. It's actually sad that Bon Jovi generates that much profit though.

In answering the Aerosmith vs. Stones question....there really is no comparison, the Stones catalog of music is far more impressive and Aerosmith's live show couldnt carry Keith's bong.
There's Pearl Jam, The Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, Robert Johnson......and then everybody else.

The 06 tour was the first one I attended and it was reat... but... I rather listen too the 2003tour bootlegs. I think the Avocado-songs and the way Eddie sings them suck. He growls through every song except the soft ones. Can't listen to Marker In The Sand live, it hurts to hear Eddie growl through the song like that. Doesn't sound good.

And some songs was played fast and uninspired, but that occured on the 2003-tour to (Why go).

And Riot Act is my favourite album. Great feel and sound on it. Unique and underrated songs. Help Help live ROCKS.

The Avocado songs was generic and Eddies singing butchered some of them.

Riot Act and Binaural has great mood and thoughtfulness. Avoacdo is just boring.

Ok who bumped my 3 year old thread? - lol!

After popping in Self-Titled for the first time in a long time, also after a thousand spins of Into the Wild, I have to say Eddie's singing of Self-Titled is pretty sub-par. He is trying to sing too high, too fast. He sounds BEAUTIFUL on ITW; back in 2006 I just figured that Eddie's sound was his current vocals and we would have to deal with it. But after ITW - and solo shows - WOW - he still has it. I don't like the dualing vocals on some of the tracks either. The music is AWESOME though - anyone who doesn't like the instrumental part must be hoping for Vitalogy II or something....

I feel like they did really well, but it's hard to find them on any of the "Top Tours of 2006" because its all by ticket sales gross, which as someone said "its easy to be #1 when you're tickets cost $400".

Anyone?? I'm trying to show PJ don't just have a cult following :)
People have a perception that the price of tickets affects ticket sales gross, when really, I would say there's much more to it than that. If a ticket costs $400, demand will be less than if the ticket were $100. A band needs to set the ticket price such that they are optimizing the product of the ticket price and the volume of tickets sold at that price. Therefore, in my opinion, ticket sales gross actually is a valid indication of how a band did during a tour.
I could be misinterpreting your question though, and maybe you're referring to another way to gauge how well they did.
