I'm really excited about Jeff's solo release...I love all his stuff with PJ, and Three Fish even. I was reading that section of the Pearl Jam page, dedicated to 'Tone' and read a question about what his influences have been recently...he mentioned a couple bands I haven't heard of, he mentioned Mastodon which put a smile on my face. Mastodon is the shit.

He mentioned Mogwai as well, and I recently picked up their album 'Mr. Beast'...very cool, interesting stuff..

  • i downloaded a bunch of mogwai about a year ago, but their back catalogue and lots of songs clocking in over 8 minutes, made it a daunting task to get into them. I have heard nothing but great stuff about them.and their albums all rank quite high in this one book i have. Any seasoned fans point me in the right direction? where to start?

    i really like:

    happy songs for happy people
    rock action
    mr. beast

if you like one you'll like them all. i tend to prefer explosions in the sky to mogwai these days, but both produce a great soundscape.

Their debut, Young Team is a great album. Other than that, the Mogwai/Explosions brand of post-rock gets old really fast for me. Pretty but shallow crescendo rock can only sustain my interest for so long.

    They're better than Explosions though.

They compete for favourite band with Pearl Jam for me. Very different bands but love them both. Happy Songs for Happy People is my favourite album but think they are all great.

Mogwai have a song called Auto Rock which was played on Pearl Jam's pre show tape on the Europe tours....thats where I fell in love with the song.

I'd imagine Mogwai are pretty awesome live.

I went to see them in Glasgow this year but was so fucked (was still out from the night before, had no sleep and had been drinking for a couple days) that i cant remember a thing, think i left before they even got started.

Going to edinburgh for their show in october though, will be excellent!!!!!!

Honestly, on record they don't really do that much for me. However, as a live act they are incredible. I saw them open a few shows for Pavement in 97, and have not missed a tour since. I've seen them 13 times, and next Thursday will make 14.

When you see me on the street, yell out "FAVO!!!"

I've been to alot of Pearl Jam shows; So fucking what.
