I was there (and still have my ticketstub too :)

It was the 3rd time I had seen them and I remember leaving the show thinking it was the best thing I had ever seen in my life.  I had been to what I thought was some pretty good shows over the years prior to that.....but this show was on another level.  They had hit their peak with Yield and this show from this tour was them at their best.  Such an amazing show.

I was there too, I wonder if I have my ticket stub still?  I definitely still have a Breath sign somewhere in storage, along with the poster, because I was one of many people the Breath Campaign organizers coordinated for xeroxing signs at my job to bring to the show.

I had very so-so seats, so I KNOW this show was next level because I still walked out with my mind blown!  And when Ed started his rampage, about how hard the band works and how they give and give and we still ask for more (Breath), and then said "Fuck you, we're going to play it!" I just burst into youful tears and my whole section went nuts, it was very very fun!

Thanks for starting this thread. Like most Americans 9/11 has taken on a whole different meaning since that epic night in September 1998 and I think back to 9/11/01 and still don't believe it happened. But it did and life goes on and I don't want to derail this thread too much so here is a brief summary of what I can remember from 9/11/98.

My first live PJ shows were Randall's Island 1996 and they were great but let's be honest...the venue and the sound at the venue wasn't so great. Camden 98 shows also great. But again it was an outdoor amphitheater (not the Spectrum).

So the 2 MSG 98 shows are what really got me hooked on live PJ. It was the Garden. Acoustics were great. Set lists were great. Crowd both nights was great. I was on the floor for MSG 2 and Baba was off the charts. So was Alive as the closer (which reminds me I wouldn't mind seeing Alive as a closer again).

I remember walking off the floor after the show and my ears were literally ringing. The crowd was unreal. It was a natural high. I don't think I drank a single beer before or after the show. The energy was just off the charts and I remember thinking  as I walked off the floor I need to experience that kind of feeling again. The live Pearl Jam experience that (IMO) can only be captured in a small venue or indoor arena (sorry to all the amphitheater fans).

You hear the cliche that "the crowd was electric" or "the venue was electric". That night it absolutely was. I was also at MSG 03, MSG 08, and MSG 10 and all amazing shows but nothing will top MSG 98 2 IMO.

Oh and after the show walking out of the arena floor onto the concourse there was a merch table with a stack of the Ames posters so I bought one for $10.

  • This was my first show. 7th row! Then I lost seniority...

That Breath sign is great. Wish I kept that. Found out later, the 4/11/94 show was my wife’s first show (and only until we met).

While I do have that poster, there are so many posters I'd now do terrible things to have that did NOT survive college!  To think I just put them up with masking tape, then took them down, then back up again... corners ripped, holes in them... We just did NOT know poster etiquette when I was in college!

  • I was at this show!  We thought we bought Ticketmaster tickets for night 1 but when they came in the mail it was for night 2.  Got lucky on that one.

I remember buying the video tape of it off the message board.  I mailed in a money order to a random address and hoped for the best.  About 9 months later it randomly showed up in the mail.

Wait, what? There's a video floating around out there!
    It's a hopeless situation...
  • I for one was not at this show and didn’t even get with the program to see PJ until 2006 however I was lucky enough to hear this show yesterday on Sirius radio. I’d heard just Breath from here on Sirius a number times, that is a FANTASTIC story with all the signs and Eddie’s “tirade”. This may be a dumb question but is the bootleg of this show available?

There's a decent sounding bootleg out there, but nothing official.  And there's a video as well, which is also pretty rough looking/sounding.  Although they did capture Ed climbing up the mic cord (draped over the lighting rig) during Alive, so that was pretty cool.  Much like we discussed in the 7/11/03 acoustic set thread, these guys are probably sitting on a ton of great footage from these legendary shows that will hopefully see the light of day at some point.

I was there both nights.  We had a blast on night 1 and then got blown away night 2.  Breath... Ed climbing the mic cord.  Epic!   =)

“You fucking cocksuckers. [shakes head] You fucking bitch! You know, we come up here as a collective band and we give and we give and you just fucking want more … and you know what? You deserve it. This is like some kind of organized religion here; I’ve never seen anything like it. Do you see what’s happening? … the third night in a row, right?  [applause] Well, fuck you. We’re gonna play it!”

I was there, it was amazing, probably the 3rd or 4th best PJ show ive seen.

IMO any 94 show with Dave on drums is just a different planet.
