A friend lives in the area near I-80 in Iowa and said in the last 3 1/2 months 40+ women under the age of 25 have disappeared.

Once convicted send the bastard back to Mexico to serve his life sentence ... or does Iowa have capital punishment.  The Gallows would be a good spot for him.

According to the Des Moines Register, missing persons cases are running historically the same. Although there’s been an increase in viral Facebook posts of allegations of “black guys” looking at me while I drive 120 mph for 10 miles and I pulled in a rest stop and a trucker helped me. Strangely, none of the posters contacted law enforcement during or after the alleged incidents described in the Facebook posts that were brought to their attention. Sounds like an urban legend in the making to me.

Don't ever discount hearsay when it comes to missing females.  Canada had to set up an enquiry into missing and murdered indigenous woman...

    Missing and murdered Indigenous women
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missing_and_murdered_Indigenous_women

We have the highway of tears as well

    Highway of Tears murders
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highway_of_Tears_murders

I'm not saying there is anything to the Iowa rumour ... but police do a shitty job of investigating issues surrounding females.

Wait a minute... I heard it was Mexican midgets that were looking at you from out of the back of a smuggler's truck and it was a black dude who was driving 10 miles an hour for 120 minutes while you were hanging half way out the passenger side window.  God, these stories sure do get twisted!  Dang!

Official stats on missing persons, especially youth, don’t seem to reflect this. Also, there are always far more “missing” youth reported than are actually the victims of abduction. The majority of missing youth are runaways, which has been the case for as long as records have been kept. Iowa seems to have a particularly confusing method of record keeping, where each incident of a report of a missing person is recorded separately, even if it is the same person “missing” (run away) multiple times.

The point has been made that police aren’t always on the ball im these cases, which is true. However, if there was truth to the rumours about large numbers of missing young women then there would have to have been official reports made, or how would the news about missing persons become public?

You are right on with your info and facts.
In the case of the Iowa rumours they are just that.
Most of the "disappeared girls" are runaways and or return home on their own which is not reported.

The Rs nasty little secret is that they never before supported deporting undocumented immigrants because these people keep their businesses staffed and wages low.

Perhaps we can have a civil discussion about this after the alleged criminal candidate is indicted.

What's predictable is what will happen when certain posters start a thread. I get that there is baggage around here based on people's either assumed or confirmed views on certain issues, but what I don't get is why it has to roll over in to every thread. I think there's been about 2 serious comments in this thread.

It's not like there was a link from Breitbart or Fox on some conspiracy. Republicans are politicizing this incident as much as D's politicize every gun shooting that occurs in this country. Why can't we care about both issues?
    It's a hopeless situation...

I have tried.  I say arrest and jail the business owners and the responses are always who would cut my grass, you’ll pay $10 for a Big Mac, or the crops will die on the tree.

So, we're back to vendettas and mob rule? An eye for an eye? Wonderful models for a justice system; in fact, one of the few things that would make the American justice system worse than it already is.

Not a mob, the parents could totally choose to forgive him and let him roam strawberry fields for the rest of his life...If he is found to be truly guilty, I would have no issue with the parents deciding the course of the remainder of his life just as he did their daughter’s.  Or would you prefer he be “rehabilitated”?
Edit:  For the record, these sentiments would apply if he was an American citizen as well.

If this happened in Canada there a strong possibility this scum doesn't even do 25 years ...

A town I used to live in had a triple murder in 1992, that scum now has day parole, which is one step closer to complete parole...

Once convicted send the bastard back to Mexico to serve his life sentence ... or does Iowa have capital punishment.  The Gallows would be a good spot for him.
I say let the victim’s parents decide what happens to this shitbag.

I would prefer that a competent justice system decide on guilt vs. innocence, and if guilty, what the outcome is. I don't think the individual feelings of the loved ones have any part in either of those decisions, in a truly just system. Leaving the decisions up to family will, first, put a huge burden on them, and second, ensure that there is absolutely no consistency, predictability or accountability. There are good reasons why civilized societies moved away from vendettas.

I’ve known plenty of high school and college students looking for suplimental income that would love these jobs that you speak of.  Those that do not want to live with their parents, that is.

Does the Maryland crab industry operate primarily with illegal employees?  Once again, I’m sure there are some jobless people that would love the opportunity.  If they cannot fill the spots with legal citizens, then they should not be in business.

Meh, I still disagree.  Maybe if a judge decided that the outcome was to let the loved ones take a few swings with a baseball bat (if they wanted of course)?  So what, in your opinion, is a “just” consequence for this asshat’s crimes (if found guilty)?

And you will have no problem helping that shitstorm, is my guess.

Sad for the parents, and for the victim.
