Some have said Trump was just kidding when he was talking about pulling out of NATO but judging from his inability to keep friendly relations going, who knows.  Besides, why would a standing president make a joke about something like that?  That's crazy.

Yup, that’s the beauty of it. It makes Team Trump Treason choose between having senate input upon withdrawing from NATO or his ego by vetoing it.

I could be wrong but I think the overall sentiment on this forum was for the US to pull the military out of Europe during the Bush era.

I'm sure there is stuff in the Ukraine thread but the search function doesn't seem to be working.  I'm willing to bet dollars to donuts that any proposed increase in US military presence in Europe was met with great disdain on this forum during the Bush era and any proposed decrease during Obama's term was met with great applause.

I could care less.  Just making observations.

Well, I don’t recall such disdain. Perhaps more Willy nilly NATO expansion rather than withdrawal from NATO. Without links, it’s an unfounded observation.

I could see trading half our involvement with NATO for doubling the Peace Corp.

    More peace, fewer bombs.

You are correct. "Pull the troops and bring them home" was a predominant theme.

I think you guys are confusing the Iraq war with NATO expansion. Missile batteries in Poland was controversial as was expanding NATO to previously soviet bloc countries.

Well, of 93 pages and 2,786 posts on pages 616 through 709, from June 2006 to January 2007, only two had "NATO" in their thread titles. Someone else with more savvy search skills can search 2007 and 2008. Again, I don't believe there was a lot of sentiment to pull US troops out of Europe during the Bush years. Is it possible there was discussion within threads with different titles? Sure, its possible but I don't think increasing US troops in Europe during Bush's term was met with "great disdain" and any decrease during Obama's term met with "great applause."

Here's the two links to posts regarding NATO from 2006 and both are in the context of NATO and Afghanistan:

I could be wrong but I think the overall sentiment on this forum was for the US to pull the military out of Europe during the Bush era.
Ummm no. Out of the Middle East, maybe. There’s a lot of thread history going back to 2006. Feel free to link. Or bump.

You are correct. "Pull the troops and bring them home" was a predominant theme.
    funny how that goes...
I think you guys are confusing the Iraq war with NATO expansion. Missile batteries in Poland was controversial as was expanding NATO to previously soviet bloc countries.
I'm not confused about nothing ... Bush President ... war bad
Obama President ... barely a peep about the 7 or so wars that were on going in his 8 years.

You certainly are as it relates to NATO. What you posit above is a completely separate and different debate than this thread title or perceived observation. “Barely a peep,” is also misleading. But believe what you want. Care to name the 7 wars on going during Obama’s term?

Obama was the first president to serve for 8 years with non stop war. I am sure trump will follow suit.

Not of his making. It’s like let’s make Obama look bad with this fact when he had little to nothing to do with starting the two conflicts that are ongoing today. Repubes in Congress and the Bush/Cheney war mongers have more to do with that fact than Obama.

Obama also gets blamed for being weak and the rise of ISIS because he resisted calls for a permanent military presence in Iraq & Afhganistan... under Obama orders the Iraq war officially "ended" in 2011 and he ordered a full troop withdrawal from Iraq in 2015.... he did the same in Afghanistan during his terms, after an initial increase in troops due to destabilization, but did stop short if a full pullout due to lingering issues  with the Taliban so the US still has about 8,000 troops in Afghanistan to help support the UN and local forces, but for all I rents and purposes he ended the Afghan war and US occupation.....

McGruff, I sure hope you dont present things to your students in that way brother, give the whole story and not just a foxnews style talking point, the man ENDED two massive wars, just as he campaigned on, you make it sound like he was a war monger lol

What the hell are you and halifax talking about?  All I said (which is fact) is that during Obama's two terms we were at war every single day.  Where is the fox talking points?  You guys really stretch some things out when people post, it really is aggravating.  And please for the love of god, stop talking about the teacher thing.  Have a great weekend.

Because it comes across as a cheap shot and has absolutely nothing to do with the thread title. Thread integrity, ya know? Go get hoppy on a Sunday, summer is flying by.

You say we were at war every day of the Obama presidency... I say Obama inherited AND ENDED massive wars that were started and mismanaged by the previous administration

The way you state it, without any context, comes across as though you're portraying Obama as a trigger happy POTUS who started and continued multiple wars, which is total bullshit. Ended Iraq. Drew down Afghanistan. Didnt take action against Syria. Then they blamed him for ending Iraq and said it caused the rise of ISIS. I'm sorry, but you cant have your cake and eat it too. Obama resisted the hawks for 8 years and did the right thing a huge percentage of the time. As a voter that supported his campaign message of ending the Bush Wars, I'm very pleased with his follow through on those fronts and his general reluctance to involve American military. Not to mention he was one of the only politicians with the courage and vision to NOT support the Iraq invasion. I think your portrayal of Obama as a "war president" is not accurate and requires a LOT more context

If you dont see that, I don't know what to tell you brother. Seems obvious to me

What are your thoughts on Obama ending the Iraq war and occupation?

Fact:  Obama was the first president to serve for 8 years with non stop war.

All this was based on a single sentence after someone implied that he led 7 wars (and I must state for the 800th time that I voted for him twice).

What I got after posting a single fact:

Oh my god, you are talking about president Obama in a negative light?!
    Nice try bro.
Did this idiot even realize that the invasion of Iraq occurred before Obama was elected?
This guy teaches our kids and doesn't realize that we invaded Afghanistan before Obama was elected?
He stated a sentence without context so we can assume that he is saying that Obama is a trigger happy President for 8 years.
Man that is a cheap shot.
You said without context so let me assume 40 different things based on one single sentence.
Cake and eat it too...or something like that.

Where did I even imply that he didn't inherit two wars?  I like both of you guys but you have to stop jumping down peoples throats.  it is a wonder that non conformists to the pearl jam mantra don't post here.

What does Obama serving two full terms while at war have to do with NATO? Talk about “conformist.” There’s a lot I can start criticizing Obama for. Like not appointing a special prosecutor to investigate Bush and Darth Cheney for crimes against humanity and leading a nation to war under false and fabiricated pretenses. Can’t stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen.
