15 Year Anniversary of Mansfield 2003

7-2-03, 7-3-03, 7-11-03.  What an unbelievable run of 3 shows.   I still get chills thinking about Eddie telling the crowd the plans for no repeats (well, except YLB) on night 1.  Between the full blown 'experiment' on night 3, to 5 hour tailgating with friends (Eddie riding his bike around the lots)....the whole experience was just amazing.  I think about the these 3 shows and the fun times often.  I feel fortunate to have attended all 3.  Fans here in New England have been spoiled with unreal Pearl Jam experiences.

I need to dig out my boot cd of 7-11-03. Such an epic set!

I Went to all 3 as well. 10c seats. 90min from my house. The morning of the 11th I pulled 5th row center off of ticketmaster. I was beyond psyched. That acoustic set....we need one again.

I have a playlist that plays all three shows back to back to back, spearated by Pry To and Red Dot.

I’ve taken that enormous music binge every once in a while and have never regretted it! It’s truly the definition of why PJ is awesome. What other band could pull off something like that?

We need more acoustic sets in our lives too. Especially considering there haven’t been opening bands lately...

Nothing warms up a cold winter day like throwing on one of these bootlegs.  With regard to the setlists, the one odd fact was they never played Glorified G or Last Exit in those 3 nights.

I only made the middle stanza, and that in itself was epic. I tried like hell for a while to get into the July 11 show, but I couldn't get a single ticket.

    Went to all 3.
10 club seats in 2nd row for night 1 and Ticketmaster seats in section 2 for nights 2 and 3.
Still remember the wife asking "why do you have to see the same show 3 times", showed her the setlists, didn't matter, she just didn't/doesn't get it.

Obviously PJ has a huge following in the northeast/New England...but the 3 shows in 2003 just solidified them as 'must-see' if at all possible.  I mean, no other band would or could ever try to pull something like this off.
Ok, hopefully they play 75 songs with no repeats at Fenway in July....

If I remember correctly the first two shows (7/2 and 7/3) the weather was fantastic.  Hot and sunny.  Day/night 3 was a bit overcast with drizzle.

Same here.  The worst/best part was that I also dragged my wife to NY for the two MSG shows on 7/8 and 7/9.  We came home (Portland, ME) on 7/10, only to turn around and back to Mansfield for another show.

I can't remember if all 3 shows were announced at once, or if they added the 3rd show later on.  I remember hearing about the acoustic set being announced and making plans to be there nice and early.  But not sure about the actual show announcement.  Such great memories!!  Can't wait until September.

If I remember it all correctly... There was only one ten club show which was night one. It was the only one announced until the ticketmaster sale date when night two went onsale shortly after. I just found the 10C announcement only showing the 7/2 date - two tickets were $96. I think night three was announced a few weeks later.

7/2 and 7/11 were hot summer days.....7/3 was overcast and drizzle.
7/11 traffic was a nightmare...but sat down just in time for acoustic Long Road.  What a night.

The acoustic portion of the set was announced only a few days before 7/11. Definitely after the 7/3 show...

Only night 1 had 10club tickets (back then "rollover" shows didn't have 10club tix offered. When 7/2 went on public sale and sold out within minutes, 7/3 was dropped right away. I believe the 7/11 show was added a week or a couple weeks later. And as LC said above the acoustic pre-set was announced some time after 7/3 leading up to 7/11 when the band realized they'd need more stage time to try and complete the "experiment". And not everyone knew about it, some of the local radio stations got word out but many casual (non 10 club) fans weren't aware. And traffic getting there on 7/11 was brutal.

This would be the worst recurring nightmare ever. The only acoustic set ever and I CANT GET TO Pearl Jam!!!!

Yeah, I think we might have been in NY when it was announced (the acoustic set) and word spread pretty quickly.  But I know a lot of people missed it as well.

I had two friends who actually went back out to the parking lot after the acoustic set to finish their beers, not realizing they wouldn't be let back in.  They ended up finding an area where they could hop the fence.

I only attended night 1 and it was amazing. The third of 3 shows I saw on that tour and still one of my favorite Pearl Jam memories. The only show I've seen with Ed wearing shorts. There was just magic in the air. Still kicking myself for not driving back down for night 3 after being offered tickets.

If I recall he mentioned it was the first time he had worn shorts on stage since the early 90's or something.

As far as different setlists every night:
    - Phish played 13 shows at MSG last summer. No repeats.
    - Bands like the Grateful Dead, Widespread Panic, Umphrey’s McGee, etc. often play different setlists every night with no repeats three shows in a row.

To be clear, I’m not making statement about who is a “better” band or anything of the sort. Rather, I’m just sharing that different setlists three nights in a row is not particularly unique.

    Cheers

“The Experiment “  I can’t believe it’s been that many years!?!?

I made it to 2 out of the 3 nights (7/2 and 7/11). I started listening to the boots again, as it’s been a while, and it’ll help stir up a few good memories.

Definitely one of their most historic concert stands. Legendary!!!

That would be fucking amazing. I've always thought every time I hear him say that on the boot that they should do it on an anniversary of this show or something.

Yep. And I literally got "caught with my pants down" and missed out on meeting him.
Had gone into work briefly in morning before heading down to et in line for 10c ticket pick up. Brough a change of clothes for the show. After getting my tickets went back to the car to change into shorts (it was hot), and while changing noticed somebody out of the corner of my eye buzzing around on a bike and thought it was an odd place to have your bike. When I finished changing and got out of the car, saw the bike rider leaving the area heading back toward the venue and realized who it was.
