Betterman in Cleveland, 2006, was a surprise out of the gate.
yeah, I don't know if it's unique or not, but Winnipeg 2005 opener of Betterman surprised me too.

    Wash was a great opener.

Elderly Woman was not such a great opener.

Elderly Woman is a great opener. Pops the crowd every time which is what an opening song should do.

    Wrong again, Jimmy.

totally killed the vibe in Virginia 2010. so much so that they played about 5 or 6 rockers in a row to get it going again.

maybe it had to do with the shitty acoustics at that Amphitheatre.

    Montreal loved it in 2011.
I think Small Town would be an amazing opener.
    Darwinspeed, all.

My first show in Milwaukee on 7/9/95 opened with "Act of Love". In hindsight, that was insane, but I didn't appreciate it like I do now.  My little two show trip I did to Brazil in 15' was awesome for openers. Got The Beatles "Rain" in Belo Horizonte after a day of solid monsoon weather, and then a couple days later got Oceans in Rio on the most gorgeous beach I've seen...that was a sweet back-to-back run of openers given the locale, weather, etc.

    that sounds like my heaven.

Last Kiss -- Milwaukee June 30th, 2006. Might be the only time they ever opened with that.

On the Lightning Bolt tour stop in Tulsa 2014 they opened with Pendulum (which I kind of expected) but then they went into Hard to Imagine and I thought that was pretty cool.

Both of my most unique opening songs are ones that are played almost every night.

Porch (Hamilton - 2005) and Given to Fly (also Hamilton - 2011).

I've never seen another set-list that had either of those songs as the opener.

Porch was awesome, but GTF seemed a bit strange.

Is there'd list anywhere of all of the openers? Just curious...thanks.

They opened with Given to Fly at Hyde Park 2010.

I haven’t seen too many unique openers, maybe Once or Unthought Known. Oddly, I have seen Release 5 times, but only twice as an opener.
Release was the opener at my first and second show. Melbourne 95, 98.

Alive, Dallas 2003. Alive usually played towards end of show. Would love to see show open with Yellow Ledbetter, just to fuck with people's minds. Close show with Release, Long Road, or Pendulum. Complete backwards setlist.

Interstellar Overdrive to open Indy '00 was cool, although most people had no idea what it was until Corduroy started.

Severed Hand in Chicago '06 worked pretty well. They played the recorded intro from the album for a long time while they took the stage.

I’ll join in with the Lightning Bolt crowd. Saw it in Lexington 16, first time they ever opened a show with it. Surprised it took 3 years.

I love the classic Release or Long Road openers.  But after the first song, it is time to get going.  These slow 2-3 song openers drag too long.  Fine for the start of encores but not for the beginning of shows.

I couldn't agree more.  Nothing like a slow opener and then kicking into go.

I've been pretty lucky with openers. Release, Oceans, Long Road, Of the Girl, in My Tree, Small Town, Love Boat Captain. But my favourite was Wash at the stinking hot Gorge.
