I haven’t seen too many unique openers, maybe Once or Unthought Known. Oddly, I have seen Release 5 times, but only twice as an opener.

Long Road at Forum in 2007. First concert in Denmark since the Roskilde tragedy in 2000. From the first note we knew the night was going to be special.

    Wash was a great opener.

Elderly Woman was not such a great opener.

Elderly Woman is a great opener. Pops the crowd every time which is what an opening song should do.
Elderly woman in Grand Rapids was an amazing opener. The  crowd was in full throat  immediately and the band responded in kind. The energy set the tone for one of my favorite shows ever. Epic night....

Nothing beats the band coming out, Eddie saying, "Cold enough for you? Let's warm it up!" and the band tearing straight into Whipping.

I was at the Newcastle show and Alive as an opener blew a lot of minds that night. Mark Richards wrote that set list - they didn't really slow down until Elderly Woman.

Some other cool ones that I've also been lucky enough to see:

Nothing As It Seems in Cardiff in 2000
All Or None at The Vic in 2007
Hard To Imagine at MSG in 2008
    “Do not postpone happiness”
    (Jeff Tweedy, Sydney 2007)

“Put yer good money on the sunrise”
    (Tim Rogers)

Alive - Dallas 2003  (Love the song but it was really strange opening with it.  Kind of fell flat because the crowd wasn't warmed up yet.)
