Work Holiday Parties

lets hear some stories from work holiday parties. I just got home from mine this year. I learned a new thing. A drunken friend confessed he and and his wife are swingers. I have been close friends with this guy for 10 years and never even suspected it. Alcohol does wonders for confessing ones soul.

Tell me some stories.

I skip mine. I spend enough time with my coworkers.

I went to one about 10 years ago and insulted our CEO. Luckily, the company’s founder and chairman of the board, who is a celebrity of sorts, explained that’s just my sense of humor and that they all put up with it because my work was invaluable and saved them every day from public embarrassment and possible litigation.

I don’t go o mine. I spend 40 hours a week with (mostly) a bunch of people I don’t like. I don’t need to see them any more than that.

Nothing too wild here, although a few years back, one of our accountants got wasted and gave a lapdance to one of the owners while he was giving an end-of-the-year thank-you yada yada speech.

He's married; his wife was there.

    Cringe-worthy at the time.

We have a Christmas party every year for bookstore employees and their families- usually about 15 to 18 people.  We used to buy presents for everyone but (partly due to my yearly nagging) finally got smart and decided to have each person draw one name for someone to buy a present for.  To my way of thinking, less shopping = better holidays.

    Sheeeeeeeit.

My company has a had a fucking banger in Atlantic City the past few years. Fucking blast. An awesome party followed by a night of bars, gambling, etc. An absolute shit show as you can imagine.

We have grown so much though that we outgrew that and stuck in philly this year. Had it last night. Was a fine time. Good people. Good booze. Decent food. A celebration of another very successful year

I've only been to one out of 7.
Why would I want to socialise with people I don't like.
I don't drink so I don't want to be around drunks.
Plus the conversations are boring and often focus around work.

Yessir. Not to mention that me and the boss man got a little drunk last night and I heard about a nice little promotion for myself. It was expected, but still.

sounds like you have a nice little shindig for your people. I very much appreciate what my work does for our holiday party

I love our work parties.  Gives us a chance to get to know everyone better and thank them for what they do...as well as meet their significant others if they bring them.  I know some don't like it (they go home early) but the after parties are always a total blast.  I have gotten into some great hijinx on those nights.
I also think it is good for those who stay out with us to see leadership as (wild) people too.
We do an all hands activity in the afternoon and then a nice dinner/drinks evening.

There were drunken physical altercations at the Christmas parties of one of the companies I used to work for.
It was a bad, toxic culture there.

I ended up out last night with my boss at one of the after parties. 1st time we drank together. Did about 6 shots with him. It eased a lot of tension we had from some disagreements earlier in the year. I see your point.

Just joined my current company in April, but I’ve heard great stories from previous years. Looking forward to the party on the 15th!

Ahhhh...some great memories. There was the one where I danced on the bar, then that other one where I danced on the bar, add a few more bar dances in there.
There was the one where I got into the pool fully dressed (yes, I know you're all shocked I was fully dressed to begin with :giggle:). I'll tell ya, wading through a pool in a dress and heels can be quite a workout.

There was the party I went to merely a month after starting at my last job....where my drunken, new boss's tits flew out at me. Awkward!

I think I've been to maybe 2 or 3 holiday parties in the last decade. Too much pressure now that I'm supposedly an adult.

Yeah that's a big no-no for me.  Hanging out with work people = talking about work.  When I'm not at work, I don't want to think about work.  I want to enjoy myself.

There's always an entire company Holiday Party that I've yet to go to in the 6 years I've been at my current job.  My team always has a smaller get together which is usually dinner somewhere with some bar hopping that have been really fun the past few years.  No crazy stories other than the usual drunk shenanigans.

 That's perfect! I need to watch that show at some point.

Today is awesome at the office, too. Everyone is working from home so that they don't have to be at their desk all day in their fancy party finery.

I'm practically alone here, and it's wonderful!

I live two blocks from work so I love days where there is a big snow or an ice storm and 95% of the people stay home.  Get so much stuff done those days.

I love days at the office like that. Most people here take the week before and the week of Christmas off. Those are my 2 most productive weeks out of the year.

My work doesn't do holiday parties, which is just fine by me. They will pick a day though and do a lunch. Some years it's covered dish, some years it's pay some money to get it catered. All years are unattended by me. Thankfully, it's not a mandatory event.

    That show is great.

Plus, it has Aubrey Plaza in it.
    And, Ron Swanson's hair.
