Q: What Saved The Beloved Hawaiian Monk Seal from Extinction?

A: The Environmental Protection Agency

News September 26 2017

Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder is proud to support International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) in their efforts to protect the U.S. Endangered Species Act (ESA) as an ambassador for the #OneActForAll campaign.

We love the ESA - it has saved iconic species in the US and abroad from extinction for decades, including the Hawaiian monk seal, a creature close to our hearts. [See Eddie pictured above.]

Congress is currently considering bills that would significantly cut funding for the Endangered Species Act, particularly around enforcement and planning. Some of these bills would force the de-listing of species like gray wolves or Pacific salmon, others would prevent non-profit organizations and citizens from holding the government accountable to the current law.

If you care about protecting these species through the ESA, you can go to IFAW's ‘One Act For All’ campaign page and do these four things:

1. EMAIL OR CALL YOUR MEMBERS OF CONGRESS - Let them know you love the ESA and want them to protect it.

2. FOLLOW IFAW on FACEBOOK, TWITTER and INSTAGRAM - so you know which creatures need your help and which members of Congress need a reminder.

3. SIGN UP FOR IFAW's ACTION ALERTS - same as above if you prefer email notifications!

4. DONATE to IFAW to ensure they have the funds they need to continue their work to protect endangered species and the ESA now and into the future.

Over two dozen celebrities are joining Eddie to speak out for ESA protection, including Mick Fleetwood, Pierce Brosnan, Susan Sarandon, Slash, Samantha Bee, Nina Dobrev, Jane Goodall, and more.

Let's do what we can to protect the species sharing the earth with us.
