Ed question

I have to ask. I've seen multiple comments through out many threads over a while now - why do people not want Ed to play guitar?

I've seen comments along the lines of - just let the musicians/guitarists play Ed, Ed's just trying to look a certain way, or even just flat out why does Ed even pick up a guitar live.

Do those that make these comments think he didn't know how to play guitar or write music or write lyrics before PJ?

Why would anyone care if he also plays guitar? I don't get it he's a musician, an artist, why wouldn't he contribute in multiple ways? 

You want him to awkwardly stand in one spot and sing for 3+ hours?

     Maybe to get more songs from Stone? I honestly have no idea. It is weird, though.. Some of my favorite PJ songs were written by Ed on guitar. Corduroy, RVM, Porch, Grievance, Insignificance, etc. It's not like this a recent development, either. He's been playing since the Vs. Tour.

    Ed's a moody bastard, aren't we all?  Anyway, was pleasantly surprised by his guitar playing when I saw him during the most recent solo tour.  (First time seeing him solo)

    I didn't know not wanting Ed to play guitar was a thing. I've never thought about it one way or the other. Just part of how the live show works.

    I didn't know this was a thing, either. I always wonder what the point is of 3 guitars, but hey, if it makes it fun for him, then have at er.

    Some of my favourite songs have Ed playing on guitar. Present Tense, Immortality, Corduroy etc.

    I just watched it on YouTube.. Looks like the guitar wasn't working. He was trying to play but no sound came out.

    I used to say ed shouldn't play but back in like 96 because it took 2% of his focus/chaos away. 

    Then, I've read, he felt like being a singer wasn't noble. So he really fucking buckled down and became a musician. I believe I read he went to Pete for lessons. From 2000 after the tour to 2002 at the wiltern was it he was just poof amazing. And now it enhances the experience and doesn't distract him. 

    I saw U2 yesterday and they sure sound perfect live, but not the emotion and fire we get from ed. 0 spontaneity. 

    I forget what does jagger, plant, bono play again? Ed is a goddam anomaly...now.

    This topic has been discussed several times over the years. Ed is a good guitar player.   I think the beef is about having three guitars muddy up the mix.

    At the Moline show some idiot was yelling "Stop playing guitar ED!!" between every fucking song.  He disappeared at some point...probably passed out or got yanked by security.

    Ed is a good guitar player....I love bands with three guitars.

    The only song I dislike ed on is porch.....no reason for ed on this one.  I think mike and stone did fine with this one for the first 15 years.
