NRL Grand Final Australia rumor

Fox Sports Australia are reporting that Pearl Jam is rumoured to be the grand final entertainment at the National Rugby League (NRL) grand final in Sydney Australia in October 2017.  Does this point to a possible Australian tour around that time?

Just saw this too. If only it was AFL it would be my two favorite things in the world combined.

Fuck, I can't stand rugby league players and the culture. But hey, whatever gets them out here again. I would assume they would wait for a new record though. That would make sense. They usually kick off their album tours here.

That would be awesome! Love Australia, lived there for 2 years and have been back several times since. Australia and New Zealand are well overdue for a full tour!!!

I don't buy it. As long as the Cubs are relevant Ed will likely not commit to anything during October-early November

Only two reasons they'd come to play the NRL GF...serious cash or part of a tour!? Let's hope it's the latter. Wish it was the AFL one though.

Surely if this is true it will coincide with a Tour?

Agreed.  There is no way that Ed would agree to be in Australia in October.

I'd hate that. Moving back home to NZ in April-if I missed PJ I'd be SPEWING. They'd probably play stadia again to recoup the huge expenses-hopefully they add to their sole Wellington date if they do decide to hit up Aotearoa.

Surprisingly I just saw that Bill Murray's first tour (playing music) is scheduled for October. He's touring the 10th-26th, presumably to be free for the World Series. Given that the NRL Final is Oct 1, it's not inconceivable to think PJ could do a 3 week tour and be back for the WS. But I agree, it's highly unlikely. Would expect a tour more in either Nov, early 2018, or Nov 2018.

If I was the rest of the band I would be a little annoyed if tour plans were based around the Chicago Cubs.  These decisions are planned months in advance so it seems a little silly to make a decision based on a chance that the Cubs could be in the playoffs.  Now that the Cubs have won a World Series I would expect it isn't as crucial to leave October open but that is just my thought.

I'm not a Cubs fan, but knowing full well the history of how that franchise has suffered through curse filled, generational droughts, it's not surprising that Ed who's obviously a diehard will want to savour every chance he can of seeing them in October. Even though they won last year I doubt that plays any role in potentially opening touring up again in October as long as they are relevant, which they likely will be for several years to come.

The NRL have got nowhere near enough money to have PJ given the "quality" of previous years entertainment. The Killers are all but confirmed for the AFL grand final

I think the rest of the band gets it. If Seattle does get the Sonics back, and they become a good team, I would fully expect the band to support Jeff if he didn't want to tour during May/June.

As a massive Sydney Roosters supporter, I would be absolutely beside myself if they made the NRL GF this year and Pearl Jam were there to headline it. It would be like all my Xmas's had come at once!!!

As much as I'd love to see PJ here again, I think the bogan NRL element would spoil this so I hope it doesn't happen.

That and the fact that I'm a Wests Tigers supporter so I won't be anywhere near a Grand Final anytime soon!

They will play the Superbowl next year when the Raiders repeat as champions.  Ed will come out as a Raiders fan.  PJ merchandise will get 100x cooler
