Doesn't seem neutral and makes me wonder what direction the Arkansas train is moving.
People's History is an interesting, tough read that I could see causing issues for some delicate types. Any thoughts?

It's a great perspective and I've used it in my history classes to teach a different side to history. I especially love his chapter on Columbus and it is a great debate starter after teaching the more traditional view of Columbus. I've found it really interesting to see the kids' take on things when you present both sides and let them make up their own minds. I can't see why you'd ban this book unless you're only interested in teaching one side to history or not interested in teaching critical thinking skills.
Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?

Seems my preconceptions are what should have been burned...

    absolutely.

snowflakes can't look in the mirror and see the history of the downtrodden. trying to hide it because god forbid kids get a different perspective. it is our history and everybody needs to own it.

i suppose if zinn wanted to be a part of the curriculum he would have included the part about how jesus wrote the constitution AND the articles of confederation.

Thanks for the comments, Everyone. Good to see some agreement on this (or at least no disagreement for a change).

You'd think in a time when some people are pleasantly surprised the president can actually read a speech an intellect like Zinn's was would be held in high regard. Oh well.

People's History was my 7th & 8th grade history book. I applaud the BOE of my state/county for administering it and teaching us from a different perspective.

That's lucky, all my history teachers were just obsessed with detailing the intricacies of wars.
Never much about why the wars were fought, but damnit to hell of we didn't know about the Battle of the Bulge or Hamburger Hill!

I understand it's a sick cultural obsession we have in America, but, damn.
