Probably should've picked a studio, but unplugged is one of the great live albums of all time IMO.

Jar of Flies is the only AIC album I've listened to in years. Dirt is a great record by JOF is soething special

This is like choosing your favorite child, and I don't even have children. I struggled between Dirt, Jar of Flies, Alice In Chains, & Unplugged. The latter with the edge because it's like a greatest hits performed semi-acoustic live. How can ya not like that?!
  • Jar of Flies
I went Jar Of Flies, absolute perfection. I probably listen to Unplugged more than anything though.

Jar Of Flies is about perfect in its conciseness... But there's more of Dirt. :rock_on:

    Alice In Chains ("Tripod)
Alice In Chains (with the 3 legged dog on the cover) This is the one I heard from them first way back in 95', it's so bleak, I like bleak music..

Musically, Alice in Chains is my favorite band from the Seattle scene. Loved the tone and production of the albums.

Sap just edges Jar of Flies out for me. I'd vote for Unplugged, but just considered the studio releases.

Dirt would be my #2 pick. There's just something about Sap that gets me even thought it's just an EP.

yeah, I think I picked Dirt merely out of nostalgia. Sap and Unplugged are by far my most listened-to. I prefer Sap over JOF as I feel like JOF is way more produced, and Sap has a more organic, simply acoustic feel to it.

Hard time choosing between Dirt and Unplugged, but went with the one that got me hooked. Unplugged was just icing on the cake at that point.
    It's a hopeless situation...

    Jar of Flies
Jar Of Flies for me. I loved Dirt and it's what got me into AIC in the first place but JOF just blew my mind when it came out. From the first note of Rotten Apple I was sold. Layne's voice on that record gets me every time

    Dirt
Dirt is a masterpiece from start to finish....listening a lot to facelift agin recently although as not as strong IMO as dirt there's quality songs we die young. Man in a box etc. recently was watching a concert from '93 on you tube from Frankfurt Germany I think layne staley just giving me chills what a vocalist, shame I never caught him live. Black give way to blue deserves a mention too.. Amazing record...

I chickened out of picking one. All of their releases are solid.

I do feel that the production of the last two albums is not on par with everything that came before. The earlier releases all sound great, especially on CD. (I know, I know.)

Unplugged, Dirt, Jar of Flies and AIC are all still in heavy rotation for me.
If hope can grow from dirt like me, it can be done. - EV
