Punky/rock from Chicago, start with 'Dangermare' from the album Cha Cha D'amore

Also, Avail. Try 'Deepwood' from Over the James.
Their lead singer Tim Barry has some more recent solo stuff out too, kind of down the Chuck Ragan/aging punker vein. Good stuff.

Martha Burner from Williams Bay, WI
Hasn't toured in a while for some reason, I wish she would, because her shows are fantastic.
But for a few great whisky soaked tunes try
    This Side of Yesterday
    &
    Fools Fanticy are great albums.
Try the Song (Dear Franklin) for starters!

Birds of Tokyo, an Australian band.

The latest album Brace is awesome, very different to their old albums.

    Amazing live band.

    Andrew Combs- Worried Man
Think Heartbreaker or Whiskeytown era Ryan Adams
"Too Stoned to Cry" might (MIGHT) be a better song (though musically very similar) than "My Sweet Carolina"

    Lorenna McKennitt,
    Angelic voice.
    Plays a harp.
    Amazing band with her.
You need Burgundy wine, or a hot totty to go with this. And be in a mellow frame of mind, with (Low Light).
    Memorizing
    Great albums are:
    Nights at the Alhambra,
    Ancient Muse
    Mediterranean Odyssey

Howling Bells. All of their albums are good, 3 of them are excellent. I'm not as hot on The Loudest Engine. Still a good album, just not on the level of their debut (self-titled), Radio Wars, or Heartstrings. A couple songs from each album to get ya started...

Howling Bells - The Bell Hit, Broken Bones, Blessed Night
Radio Wars - Cities Burning Down, Nightingale, Into The Chaos
The Loudest Engine - Live On, Secrets, The Loudest Engine
Heartstrings - Paris, Paper Heart, Reverie

Shadows Greats & Evil Ways is a great concept album. True story about a guy named Joey White. Normal guy who joined the army, fights in the desert, comes back all fucked up takes a long time to adjust to civilization.
Love and the Death of Damnation is outstanding too!

Here is a funky tune from the legendary Waylon Jennings that I would bet most of you have not heard. But might be impressed.

    Aw, lol.
It's a good thread topic. My theory is that this need is already being fulfilled in several other threads that have been around forever. But hey, keep posting - you have views at least!
