'Twas The Night Before Ed's Day

So, last night I couldn't sleep. While tossing and turning I suddenly had an idea and had to get out of bed and write it down. It literally was coming to me faster than I could scribble it in my notebook. Sure, it's kinda cheesy and silly, but it's also from the bottom of my heart. So, without further ado, I present to you my birthday gift to Eddie. It's just a little something for someone who has given so much to all of us.

‘Twas The Night Before Ed’s Day

‘Twas the night before Ed’s day
And “Down” the “Long Road”
All my neighbors could hear
My speakers about to explode

The volume was high
It was cranked up to “Ten”
If I could turn it up more
I would do so, my friend

My “Daughter” was ready
I “Let The Records Play”
If she would have baked longer
She’d have been born the same day

But she was born on the tenth
Instead of the 23rd
But I guess “It’s Okay”
‘Cus I still love that turd

The riff on Stone’s guitar
As it rang through my head
And then a “Deep” voice
Sang, “Son, she said…”

And forever since then
My life never the same
I had found my life’s soundtrack
And I called it by name

“Nothingman”, “Immortality”,
“Sad”, “Got Some”, “Down”,
“Corduroy”, “Do The Evolution”,
“Elderly Woman Behind the Counter In A Small Town”

The first dance at my wedding
Was “Yellow Ledbetter”
And A few times I’ve cried to “Black”
When days could have been better

Pearl Jam was now
My most favoritest band
Starting in ‘91
I would travel this land

To every concert I could afford
And a few that I couldn’t
My mission was clear
Miss them I wouldn’t

They would play on for hours
With so many encores
But no matter how many
I wanted “Once” more

The whole band was there
I would shout them by name
In a crowd of thousands
All doing the same

Matt Cameron on drums
Killing the grooves
And Stone Gossard on guitar
Dancing duck moves

Jeff Ament jumping around
While walking his bass
Mike McCready, the guitar God
Melting my face

Boom on the piano
Never playing it better
And there in the middle
The legend, Eddie Vedder

So now on his birthday
I drink to the guy
That sang “Evenflow”
And “Given To Fly”

Happy birthday to Eddie
I’m forever in debt
You’ve helped keep me “Alive”
And I won’t “Soon Forget”
It's all about the music...
