I liked future days as an acoustic demo with Ed singing

    Yes.

Also at Msg1 was my favorite live performance.
    Better Days still wins though.

Better Days by a long shot.

Future Days is one of the reasons I'm slowly giving up on the band if they can't find enough time to fill an album with meaningful songs and include Future Days and Sleeping by Myself on an album. I couldn't put my finger on it but in the last few weeks I've realized why my PJ fandom is decreasing and this is it. They still put on great live shows but I want to follow a band that is still hungry to put out the best music it can. For now I'll be listening to Nick Cave, PJ Harvey, and the like...

So Pry, To, Aye Davanita, and Foxymop all being on the same album doesn't bother you but Future Days and Sleeping both being on LB are making you question your fandom?

I can't answer for bootlegger10, but in my opinion, those songs on Vitalogy were experimental "interludes". FD and SBM are both cheese filled junior high dance slow dance songs. SBM is good on Uke Songs, but the full band version I don't like at all. Like two different songs.
    Darwinspeed, all.

    Cheers,

Those songs add an interesting quality to their work. They wouldn't waste a minute on those things now, but back then they were in the studio creating and making music because they liked it. We got all the great songs from the albums but also got the weird stuff like Evil Goat, Dirty Frank, Olympic Platinum, etc... that made me realize this band was different from the other bands. But now they spend just enough time to get the record and only the record done. Sorry, the band that releases SBM and Future Days is not the band I became a die hard fan of. It is their band and they can do what they want. They play great live shows and I'll continue to see them, but I'm not exactly looking forward to the next record. I get that they are five people that are probably not 100% all-in to PJ and have other stuff they want to do so they can't spend 2 months on a record.

I haven't listened to Better Days enough to have a strong opinion about it. Obviously it didn't win me over though or I would have sought it out more.

Future Days suffered from a weak debut at Wrigley 2013. Unimpressed from the start. But...the Hartford 2013 story about what the song really means helped win me over on it. Plus it hasn't been played to overkill since then.

Better Days. Both songs have a place in the PJ catalogue and I actually don't mind either one. Not my favorites but both songs are fine.

Future Days sounds too much like Ed trying to be Bruce Springsteen. Better Days sounds like Ed being Ed.

No contest, Better Days buries Future Days under a giant dung pile.

Fantastic when he sang it solo in Oz
