1/2 Full

So I'm really digging this song again, especially live. Can anybody recommend any good versions?

I think the version from 2008 Boston 2 is pretty good. That one stands out.

I thought 2003 at MSG, night 2, was great in person and on the bootleg. In person, Vedder reflected an aerial ceiling light into the crowd from his guitar.... love the extended Jam of this song.... it's like Of the the Earth in that regard.

Thanks everyone. Great recommendations. The 3rd man records version is what got me back in to the song. Great call of NYC 03, I was there and had forgotten about it. Also forgot about the easy street version. Completely agree about the extended jam at the end of the song. I think that's why I love it.

I love 1/2, it's one of their most unterrated songs IMO.

Must admit that the Third Man recording reintroduced me to this one in a VERY big way. I have no idea how I lost it in the first place, but wow...what a song.

I second the Easy Street recording, best I've heard. Mike was on fire during the solo.
  • That's one of those songs that I was completely indifferent to until hearing it live at Philly '13. Now, it's on my want list every show.

"1/2 Full" might be my least-favourite Pearl Jam song, so I am taking all of your opinions under consideration. Perhaps I will hear one of these recommended live versions and something will "click".

Throwing in a vote for Montreal 2003... Although I was there, so I'm biased.

I love 1/2 Full. Super cool song, both musically and lyrically. And for those who hadn't noticed, pretty neat that there is a Porch lyric in this song, and that the song also acknowledges that. "It's been said before." :)

    Climbing on a mountain
    Floating out on the sea
Far from lights of a city
The elements they speak to me

    Whispering that life
    Existed long before breed
    Balancing the world
    On its knee

Don't see some men as 1/2 empty
See them 1/2 full of shit
Thinking that we're all but slaves
    There ain't gonna be

    No middle anymore
    It's been said before
    The haves be having more
    Yet still bored

    Won't someone save
    Won't someone save
    The world?

I've been exploring some of the suggested versions and find (much like any live Pearl Jam) that each stands out in different ways.

Overall, I am going to have to agree with the Montreal 2011 version though, but musically that Boston 3 2003 is top notch and then that 2013 Philly one is mixed the best on the boot. All in all, it was great listening to each version. Love the loud, "What the fuck?!"

that 2011 Montreal-er does have a killer WTF, and Ed intros "Michael McFuckin Cready" after his other worldly solo.
