Best: Stairway To Heaven, just because it is, in one song, a beautiful ballad and at the same time a great rock song.

    My favorite: Cropduster.

Couldn't the same argument be made for Free Bird then?

I maintain that the two most important rock songs written are Stairway and Free Bird but best is a different discussion.

I'm not sure what the best song ever is but I bet it was written by The Beatles.

George Harrison alone would fill this thread up

    Beethoven, Symphony No. 9.

    That was easy. :-D

    Wish You Were Here (Floyd)

    More Than a Feeling (Boston)

Are two that need to enter the discussion.

    For rock songs? Yeah, definitely.
    I'd also throw out there:

    Rolling Stones, Gimme Shelter
Bob Dylan, Tangled Up in Blue
    Derek and the Dominoes, Layla

    Not really rock, but amazing:
Bob Marley, No Woman No Cry

And one of my personal favorites, Richard Thompson, 1952 Vincent Black Lightning.

I've been contemplating. Kashmir I think.

But PJ's Masters of War from wrigley 1 might be the best live performance of any song I've ever witnessed. Just my opinion.

Oh, I agree. That was other-worldly.

    Great band
I'd nominate Once in a Lifetime as best T-Heads song.

Well I dunno how I'm going to feel in 2 minutes when it's over, but now that it just came on my mp3 player while I'm stuck in a lineup, the best song is "Puttin' On The Ritz" by Taco! :plus_one:

    Change - Blind Melon

    Ewwww nice.
I love how Shannon changed the lyrics when he sang this. The version they did on Letterman shortly after Cobain died gets me every time:
And oh as I fade away,
they'll all look at me and say, and they'll say,
Hey look at him! I'll never live that way.
    But that's okay
they're just afraid to change. becomes "They couldn't anyway"

    Stairway To Heaven.

I had that typed and went the Kashmir route. There are so many good Zep tunes. It could easily be Trampled Underfoot, Achilles’ Last Stand, or No Quarter
Ooh, No Quarter is amazing and I really like the Tool cover of that song too.
    It's a hopeless situation...
