At first I thought I thought it was a straight up advertisement put up by Wrigley or something. Maybe the band sold out and went corporate. Then 10 seconds into it I thought, "I'm a schmuck," when I realized what it was. Friend's mom had ALS and was able to see what they went through. Know full well what it does to people. Hopefully the Gleason story raises awareness because most people don't have any idea what a debilitating disease it becomes. It really strips you of everything.

Come on, OP. Hopefully by now you've realized that it wasn't just a big ass commercial and that Pearl Jam haven't sold out. This is powerful stuff, and I appreciate Pearl Jam raising awareness for ALS and for Gleason. Well done, PJ. And OP, it looks like you came out of a 2 year posting hiatus to grace us with this thread. Hopefully it will be another 2 years before you subject us to anything similar.

Best wishes to the Gleason family.

There's nothing worse than people who are "annoyed" with ice bucket challenge, or any other platform raising awareness for ALS. I'm in grad school for occupational therapy, and just finished my clinical rotations. ALS is absolutely devastating. No way around it. Raising any sort of awareness for people is a point in the right direction. I can't imagine what anyone who has been diagnosed has to go through, as well as their family. Go Steve, every time I see something on him I'm always inspired. What's even worse is that many people diagnosed don't have the resources to use the technology he gets. It truly is a terrible disease, and raising awareness is crucial.

I can't believe the audacity of people today. The tour ends and this board goes to hell.

So we've already taken advantage of the handicapped and want to cover our ears when supporting Steve Gleason and his project to share his legacy with future generations. What's next? Start a thread bashing veterans, foreigners, or the elderly? SMH!!!

Why would they delete it? You don't hide ignorance. You let it expose itself and hope the ignorant become less so. Deleting this only serves to save the appropriate level of public embarrassment. It is what it is. It's all around us. Let it expose itself for what it is.

What really baffles me about this is that while on the surface, it was a movie promo, at the very least one would realize it had some PJ connection based on the music thread throughout. So, even if you didn't know the back story (which I do think a few folks on this thread have gone a bit too far in their self righteous indignation), you'd think someone who is on a PJ message board might be at least mildly interested. But, it is what it is.
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

One of my closest friends passed away from this horrible disease about 6 years ago. The worst thing imaginable, fully functioning brain stuck inside a shell of a body, close to the end she couldn't communicate anything at all, we had to guess her wants and needs, devasting and heartbreaking to witness.

    Sorry for your loss, Sandy.

I liken ALS (Parkinson's too) and Alzheimer's as opposite sides of the same fucked up coin.

In the former, the mind is there but the body isn't.

    The latter, vice versa.

I'm all for people to really GET what this horrible disease is about, also with Edson on letting ignorance be seen. Maybe it'll help others, maybe it'll even help those who don't get it, to actually understand.

OP deserves to be dumped in an ice bucket. Maybe it would awaken some sense of feeling or emotion for others in this world. I was in tears when I saw the trailer in Boston and at Wrigley. OP, even if you think its a "buzz kill"...try and imagine ALS happening to anyone in your family, then think of your band, and a massive crowd standing up and supporting you. Try watching the movie or the 30 for 30 on Steve Gleason next. Did you talk throughout the time he was onstage before inside job? Was that a "buzz kill" too?!!

Either you're too young, or just a complete a-hole, but you're certainly out of touch with this band, it's fans, and this community. Were you the dude who pushed me and my wife aside so your buddy could "piss on the rail" (into the friends and family section) at Wrigley 1? It would make a lot of sense if you were.

    Worst thread ever.

This is hilarious and ridiculous and sad.
So when was this video played on Saturday? We must have been pretty late cause I didn't see any Steve Gleason documentary preview. Think we got in and to our seats about 7:40 but I don't know for sure, I was just glad the show hadn't started after that mob through the metal detectors and people almost getting plowed down by a bus.

No need to bully this person. He likely wasn't aware of what the ad was or who Steve is. Bullying him and being mean isn't a good way to go about.

Definitely, no one's heartless enough to rant like this with full knowledge of this abomination. Finally it gave an oportunity to talk about it one more time and maybe drew attention of unaware people.

2 Stories that have been posted this one and the ADA post....

then you read tragic stories like the guy who lost his BROTHER to suicide and Steve Gleason who is battling ALS and I seriously wonder WTF is wrong with people who bitch about the most trivial stuff in life????

And then you try and erase your post? own up to it OP we all know exactly how you felt about the "advertisement" you were inconvenienced to be made aware of a situation that destroys people's lives

@Kat @Sea can we get rid of this thread?
