I've hoped for a long time to see this happen. I'm a Pearl Jam nut, and a Les Paul nut, so I am pumped for this guitar!

The autograph will be on the back of the headstock, between the tuners. Hopefully it won't see much wear there while playing!

It looks amazing, but that price is insanity.

I have AN ACTUAL 1969 Cherry Red Les Paul in its case and I dont think its worth that much.

This is really cool - but the prices Gibson charges for these instruments is a little...OK...A LOT.... outrageous.

~4K difference in price just for a signed headstock? It's not like Les Paul himself signed it. No disrespect to Mike but cmon!!!!

Outrageous, it doesn't even come with automatic tuners!!

....right in line with the rest of Gibson's pricing.

Gibson's CEO has totally decimated that company.

This story broke out, 8 weeks ago?!?

    http://www.lamusic.ca/Gibson-Custom-Shop-Mike-McCready-1959-Les-Paul-9-1910-s/1020.htm

Gibson Custom is proud to announce the limited release of the Mike McCready 1959 Les Paul #9 1910, a precise replica of the Pearl Jam guitarist’s original that he tours and records with today.

When Pearl Jam exploded out of Seattle in the early 1990’s, their aggressive, guitar-fueled tone not only helped revive rock and roll, it did something that only truly great bands do; it created a sub-genre of music. Dubbed “grunge”, Pearl Jam’s unique take on rock launched a legacy that exists today with as much of a following today as it did twenty years ago. Mike McCready’s sound and style lives at the heart of Pearl Jam’s instantly recognizable tone. His original 1959 Les Paul is a critical component to that sound. If it isn’t rare enough that an original 1959 Les Paul is still in active use, add to it that it’s the second go-round for serial #9 1910 in the orbit of genre-changing music. Mike’s original was also owned by Jim Anderson, the last guitarist in Van Morrison’s band Them who purchased it from a Pawn Shop while on tour in Seattle sometime between 1967-69. When you read through the attached sales sheet you’ll learn how miraculous it is that the guitar is still in existence, let alone in the hands of Pearl Jam’s lead guitarist. This is an incredible guitar in its tone, playability, and in its history. In Mike’s words: “I picked it up, played for a few seconds, and said ‘Yeah, this is the one’. It just felt right in my hands. I’ve used it on four or five albums since and take it on every tour.”

The limited edition Mike McCready 1959 Les Paul is the result of a close collaboration between Gibson Custom’s craftspeople, engineers, and Mike McCready, whose ‘hands-on attention to detail approach’ insures an incredible guitar that any player will be proud to have in their collection. Offered in True Historic specifications, the Mike McCready 1959 Les Paul Standard is available on a limited basis with qualifying materials ultimately determining the size of the run.

    Available versions and worldwide quantities:

    · 50 Aged (Signed by Mike McCready).

    · 100 Aged (unsigned)

    · 150 Vintage Gloss

I already have a 1959 Les Paul.. I'd rather have a Mike 1959 Strat. I also hate fake aging on guitars.

I'm not sure when Gibson actually announced these. I know that my local shop sent me the info within an hour of receiving the sales sheet themselves, because they know I'm a PJ fan. There were only 2 of the 50 aged/signed still available from Gibson as of about 5:30 EST on the afternoon of Monday July 11. I don't know how many of those 50 were going to dealers who hadn't sold them yet.

A 59 Les Paul was orginally made in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Not Nashville, Tennessee.

I haven't seen any others for sale locally. My local shop ordered mine for me while I was standing there and could hear the interaction between them and their Gibson rep. I only have 1 shop within a few hours of me that even carries Gibson guitars.

I have noticed that Musicians Friend has a few "placeholder" websites in place, I'm assuming so that they are ready to post their McCready Les Pauls for sale when they arrive.

They are definitely a step up in quality and materials from the production-made Les Paul Standards. Worth the extra $$? To me, it is. To others, I'm sure they'll say that it isn't.

No matter how hard I try though... every guitar that I play still sounds like me :)

Awesome. I like Fenders and Gibsons about the same. I would love to get the reissue and especially love the color. Living in an apartment though and not being in a band really makes it worthless right now to spend any money on a nice electric guitar if you can't turn the amp up past 1.

I would buy one, only if Mike played it at Wrigley, the rest of the band signed it, and they called me up on stage to give it to me and sing while Mike was playing it, if I had the cash to blow, if I played guitar, if my wife wouldn't kick 12k worth of shit out of me... :i_dunno:

Looks like one was sold over @ http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:q3J77lkl-WUJ:www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/gibson-custom-mike-mccready-vos-59-les-paul-electric-guitar/j41471000000000+&cd=10&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=ca

    OVERVIEW

A fabulous recreation of an historic guitar.

The original, serial #9 1910, was owned by Jim Anderson, the last guitarist in Van Morrison's band Them, who purchased it from a Pawn Shop while on tour in Seattle sometime between 1967-69. Once Jim retired from touring, he returned to Belfast, gigging on weekends where he'd often carry the guitar, sans case, to the Pub. It was left behind a few times after "a pint or two" according to legend, occasionally found leaning against the outside wall, where it was rescued and returned to the stage by the bartender closing up that night. At one point, the guitar went missing for a year, only to turn up in the backroom of the pub.

In the late 1990's, Jim's daughter, Shelly, was living in Seattle and contacted Danny Mangold (Danny's Music of Everett, WA) about her dad's original '59 back in Belfast and Jim's desire to sell. Danny and Jim spoke by phone, hit it off and Jim brought the guitar to Seattle to consign it at Danny's. Danny recalls standing at the airport baggage claim when the guitar slid off of the conveyer belt. Jim had simply checked it as baggage.

Knowing Mike McCready was in the market for an original '59, Danny made a call to Mike, who selected it over a few other 1959 Les Pauls in Danny's inventory. It was the feel and tone that grabbed him. He had no idea of its unique history at the time.

"I picked it up, played for a few seconds and said, "Yeah, this is the one." It just felt right in my hands. I've used it on four or five albums since and take it on every tour."

Like most of the artists fortunate enough to own an original 1959 Les Paul, Mike feels the pressure of traveling with such a valuable guitar night in and night out with Pearl Jam, but a player gravitates towards to best tools . The chance to have his own replicated by the craftspeople at Gibson Custom meant the chance to provide the occasional respite to a nearly priceless instrument without sacrificing tone and playability.

Offered to True Historic Specifications and in two finish options (aged and Vintage Gloss), and with the first 50 aged being hand-signed by Mike McCready, the Mike McCready 1959 Les Paul Standard is available on a limited basis, with qualifying materials ultimately determining the size of the run.
