What terrible news - I just saw his name trending on Twitter and I thought, yay, he's got a new show.

Very sad. Larry Sanders was the best.

Over The Hedge is the most underrated of the Dreamworks animated movies. Loved his voice over role as the turtle.

Way way ahead of his time.

Strange to shed tears for the death of someone I didn't know, but whatever.

He brought a lot of laughs to my life.

    MOOOOO!
The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.

That is very sad and unexpected. I loved Gary Shandling. The It's Gary Shandling show was fucking hilarious.

I’ve known Garry for a long time. We go back to the mid-80’s. I just want people to remember what great work he gave us. The Larry Sanders Show just stands as some of the best TV work ever done. He was always quiet about his talent and just a really decent guy.

We first met when my daughter was acting. At that time and she was down reading for another show, and they asked her if I would be interested in coming on Garry’s first show, It’s Garry Shandling’s Show. She told them that I loved that show. So Garry phoned me and we talked a while. I wound up going on his show four or five times. And it was lots of fun and we remained friends from then on out.

We had a very strong friendship: we kept in touch all that time. You know, he’d come to our shows, and he’d hang out with us. I went to his house many times. And he would come to my house. It was a comfortable friendship where if he came over I didn’t feel like I had to entertain him, and it was the same way back.

He had an incredibly original talent, and as a man I can’t say enough about him.

He was more than a showbiz acquaintance to me, he was a dear friend, and I will miss him.

Sweetness - that's how it should be.

    Big fan of both gentlemen.

    Thanks for posting that.

Interesting story about who encouraged Garry to chase it. Good stuff.

Apparently he and Joel from MST3K were good friends before they made it big as well.
So sorry to hear the news about Garry Shandling. He was an inspiration and dear, sweet, guy. We met in 1982 when I first moved out to LA to persue doing stand-up full time. Garry helped me get some key bookings in and around LA (the hardest gigs to get) and he was also nice enough to watch my act and gave me some sound advice about performing. He used to invite me to his house to write on afternoons prior to doing shows at the Comedy Store where we both worked. I remember listening to Donald Fagan's "the Nightfly" up at Garry's house, I was usually drawing something for my act in my black hard bound notebook and he would constantly be writing jokes on a legal pad and running lines through out the afternoon. By the end of the day, when it was time for me to go, he would have consistently written three really funny lines, amazing -- my hit rate wasn't nearly as good. He also introduced me to Brad Grey, who became my first manager and to a bunch of great comics like Dave Coulier, Bruce Baum, and Bill Kirkenbauer, who also became my friends when I didn't have that many. I later moved back to Minneapolis, but we stayed in touch and would get together when he came to town for shows. Little known fact, prior to making MST3K, I built a bunch of robots out of found objects and sold them in a store called "Props" in Minneapolis. One of the robots, a blue one, I saved for Garry as a "thank you" -- which I delivered to him the next time I went to LA. A few months later, I was surprised and honored to see Garry had made the robot one of the decorations in his TV house for "It's Garry Shandling's Show".

HBO going to re-air Larry Sanders. Deal reached before his death.

And if you haven't seen his Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee episode with Jerry Seinfeld, check it out. Death, Robin Williams among things they discuss.
