Watching the Oscars makes me wonder why...

EV didn't get a nom for best original song (guaranteed) back in 2008?; In those years all 5 nominated performers played the Oscars, maybe he didn't want to perform at the show?

Secondly, what does the original Out of the Furnace soundtrack sound like? Damn.

The fact that they just awarded some sub-par pop star for creating what is perhaps the worst Bond theme of all-time leads me to not give a shit.

    True, horrible song.

EV was nominated for Golden Globe for ITW but it was the year there was no show broadcast (writer's strike)... otherwise I'm pretty sure he would have gotten to perform at that one right?

He won actually but you're correct in the non showing. Odd to win a catagory for 1 major show and yet not be even nominated in the same catagory for an almost exact show. EV must be Jim Carrey (twice)

This will help explain why no nom for original score. But unfortunately not for song.

It's hard to comprehend why they chose that song over Radiohead's effort.

...and yes, as much as I love movies and like to use Oscar nominations to help me filter out some of the good movies from the not-so-good ones, the whole spectacle is pretty ridiculous.

Ed' ITW music wasn't considered a true soundtrack by the Oscars. I think it has to be music written specifically for the film or inspired by the film or some nonsense. which is why it wasn't nominated.

but that doesn't seem to matter if it's a pop star.

I don't even watch award shows anymore. i watched Rock's monologue online after, and I'll catch Grohl's Blackbird later today. other than that, complete waste of time.

The article link I posted above explains why he wasn't nominated. I believe that that rule has since been changed.

He should have at least gotten a nomination for song though, not score (at the time).

The weird thing is like a year later Falling Slowly won for best song, when it was written and released years before the movie it was included in. They NEVER used to honor that, had to be written specifically for a movie.

People say put me in the camp that doesn't give a shit yet still takes the time out of their lives to write about it, oh the irony. I think Ed cares about recognition, maybe not for the award itself, but he is contributing specifically for a movie which he chooses to do. Hell he wrote Man of the Hour the night he saw Big Fish. He wrote the ITW soundtrack from the eyes of the main character. To think he just writes songs and then says "whatever" like he's 24 years old again is pretty ignorant in my opinion.

I didn't mean to be disrespectful to your original post, and I apologize if it came across that way. I care about Pearl Jam and Ed enough to read about people's opinions but at the end of the day, I don't care if Ed/Pearl Jam wins awards, and definitely not Oscars/Grammys. That's all. It doesn't mean that I'm judging you for caring, if that makes sense. To each their own. You are entitled to your opinion just as much as I am to mine.
