Take the train, definitely. Easy-peesy and no traffic jams, no parking issues.

Thanks. Please forgive my ignorance but it looks like MSG is about a mile from Grand Central Station. Is there a subway from the station to MSG?

    Thanks for the help.

i would just walk it from grand central to MSG. there's no direct train and it's only about a mile. depending how you go it could be a pretty pleasant walk. maybe stroll by bryant park- but i'd avoid walking directly into times square unless you've got extra time to kill

Def agree with walking. You could also take a cab or uber it. If you do want to take the subway, you could take the shuttle to Times Square (look for the grey S line) and then switch to the 1/2/3 subway line (red line). It's not that hard to switch subway lines but I prefer walking :)

District Tap House on 38th street had a few quality beer selections when I was there I December. Where else can I get some hard to find brews?

So I dunno about hard to find brews (I'm not a big drinker) but I like Ginger Man and Rattle n Hum:
    http://www.gingerman-ny.com
    http://rattlenhumbarnyc.com/m/HomeRattleNHumIndex

I also really like Reichenbach Hall, it's a German beer garden smack in Midtown!: http://mobile.dudamobile.com/site/reichenbachhallcom?url=http://reichenbachhall.com/&utm_referrer=https://www.google.com/#2668

Also, check this out, I trust eater reviews: http://ny.eater.com/maps/best-beer-bars-new-york-city
all good options! i like ginger man- it's a bit larger and pretty centrally located. blind tiger is also cool but a bit more cramped. the beer hall would be a nice choice if there's going to be a group hanging out. if it's a smaller crowd, my super secret spot is the rabbit club on macdougal

Read a great piece a few years ago about the high line in the national geographic, would like to see it I guess but its far down the priorities.

Is climbing liberty any good? or over rated? My good friend already gave me some advice on this, but is there any other thoughts? seems to me seeing liberty from the outside is better than looking out of it from the inside?

Took a boat tour past lady liberty a few years ago which was cool. There's also an option to get off on Ellis Island to stay for a couple of hours. If you want to climb something Top Of The Rock has really cool views of Manhattan including Central Park. Much better than Empire State IMO. Haven't done Freedom Tower, but it seems to me it's so high and far away from the majority of Manhattan that it just wouldn't be as cool as TOTR.

Looks like FAO Schwartz is closed. Times Square's large Toys R Us with a ferris wheel in the middle of it also just closed too unfortunately. Maybe a local has something for you, but I've got nothing else (except there is a lego store at Rockefeller Center).

Suziemay is very generous with her offer for NYC input.

    Some craft beer spots:
Blind Tiger Ale House (W Village)
Pony Bar (Midtown West and UES)
    Beer Authority (Times Sq)

I think Stout (near MSG) has craft beer (or you could go to Hooters nearby). And Paulaner Brewhouse (LES) is another good beer spot.

I can vouch for Beer Authority! Very good selection!

Easy subway from Grand Central. Take the "S" Shuttle (this only goes between Grand Central and Times Square so it's impossible to get on the wrong train), goes one stop to Times Square 42nd Street. Then take the 1 train (Red train) Downtown to 34th St., Penn Station (also one stop) and get off, you will be under MSG. Whole trip should take about 20-30 min. max.

They are not super close but you can just use google maps and get the subway from wherever you are.

    http://www.candlecafe.com/east/index.html 1307 3rd Avenue between 74th and 75th.
    http://www.blossomnyc.com/chelsea/ 187 9th Ave - near 20th. Chelsea
    http://www.redbamboo-nyc.com/ 140 West 4th - Greenwich Village area
I've eaten at all of these. I don't live in the city but go there a lot.

If you like ramen, there's a place called Momofuku Noodle bar. It's def. not all vegetarian, but you can get a vegan ramen bowl there that is to die for - I'm salivating just thinking about it. But making reservations is a good idea.
    https://noodlebar-ny.momofuku.com/

And near that is an ice cream place called Snow Days that has shaved ice cream including a vegan flavor. http://www.snowdaysnyc.com/

    Pizza
    Lombardi's - little Italy so/ho
    Grimaldi's- Brooklyn

Two great places for pizza. I prefer Lombardi's as its in the city and I'm not a fan of Brooklyn. The one exception would be Peter Lugers, good old fashioned steak house.

Yeah, and even if it were a few miles I'd still say walk. Simply walking around NYC is one of the most entertaining things you can do there!

Yea, no more awesome toy stores that I know of :( there may be some smaller local ones but I'm not sure if they would be much of a destination. Lego store might be your best bet, there are a bunch around the city.

The one I can think of off the top of my head is Franchia. It's a Korean vegan tea house. It's about a 15 minute walk: http://www.franchia.com

For a fancy vegetarian meal, my friends swear by Kajitsu. It's quite pricey and about a mile away, but definitely walkable: http://www.kajitsunyc.com/sp/
