Indifference as a "closer"

I love this song and it is great live - but I do not think it should be used as a closer - especially with the lights on. It worked well when they play it as the last song on night one of a two night stand - see Amsterdam 2014 - but not so sure about Detroit 2014. Thoughts?

I've gotten it as a closer twice. I like it. I will say that It would be cool to see like parting ways or all those yesterday's close out a show. The opening and closing songs have become somewhat predictable, but I enjoy the show either way.

I like it as a closer.

My buddy who has been to eight shows yet somehow never gotten Yellow Ledbetter...he's all set with it.

Love it as a closer but leave the lights down maybe.

It should be an opener with zero lights on stage.

Anything you lose from being honest
You never really had to begin with.

Sometimes it's not the song that makes you emotional it's the people and things that come to your mind when you hear it.

    Ha!

I love the song itself, don't give a shit where it falls within a show. But it's not a bright light journey by any means.

    Dark light.

    Low light.

I was at Detroit 2014. Awesome song, marvellous song. But IMO you gotta end a show with a banger or a fun sing-a-long. Ledbetter is a bit of both which is great and while Indifference is a good sing-a-long, I just think it's a little too emotional and melodramatic to end a show with. I don't hate it though

I think they should add more closers too....Parting Ways is great enough to make a show closer regularly if the setlist was already full of hit friendly stuff. Maybe PJ can get AC/DC`s 1985 stage set up off Ebay and start closing with "For those about to Rock we salute you" .

One of my faves, I love it whenever I get it at a show. Light off would be nice, time for smooching!

Ben Harper has ruined the listening experience for me.
Every time I hear this song now (live or otherwise) I just hear his grating voice trying to sound powerful.
What a botch job he did in that duo.
You can immediately feel the presence when EV starts singing, saving the song like.

I have to agree with Pjfanwillneverleave here. Ben Harper is good on his own, but this beauty of a song should be all PJ, at least to me. I actually even prefer the studio version over any live version, but it is always a sweet treat to hear it.

Agree, I've always liked more upbeat/happy songs (Ledbetter, Baba, RITFW) to close.

Definitely would work better with the lights off. Love hearing it though.

As many of you have already stated, it needs to be played with the lights down (maybe just a single spotlight on EV). If the lights must be on to end the show, then Indifference should be moved to the second to last spot. Partings Ways and All Those Yesterdays would work well in this position too. So would Immortality. Afterwards, the band could play a song that leaves everyone singing/dancing/chanting...Alive, Porch, YLB, Baba, and (if it must be played), RITFW do this sort of job. I've also always felt that RVM and Better Man are big enough to end a show...but now I'm getting off topic.

Saw it as a closer to end my first Pearl Jam concert in October of 2000. It is an extremely important, personal song for me, and I wept uncontrollably at the show's conclusion. Maybe my favourite Pearl Jam moment of all-time was seeing them perform that song at that instance. So, I'm biased towards it.

prefer YL as a closer. Indifference feels like a subdued ending to a show IMO

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love this song, I just think it loses so much of its allure when played with the lights on at the end of a show.
