Did Ed sound better in 2014 than 2013??

Could just be me, but I feel like Ed sounded way better on the 2014 leg than the 2013 leg? I could just be crazy. Gimme your opinions.

I would have to agree - but maybe arenas have better acoustics than baseball stadiums?

They only played one baseball stadium? Wrigley? And I was just listening to the 2013 boots and comparing them to the 2014 boots and Ed just sounded better in my opinion.

I think the LB songs sounded much better on the 14' tour for obvious reasons.

I don't notice a difference between 13 and 14.... But I notice a huge difference between 12 and 13/14. Sounded much, much better the past 2 years. Some of those 2012 boots are rough.

I read an interview last year, he said he quit smoking..ciggs at least. I think I saw him with a vape cig. Pittsburg 2013 his voice was better than Cincy 2014 I believe.

Ed at least went through a stretch where he kicked the smokes. Every show in 2012 he would lite one up during mikes porch solo. That was absent in the 2013 and 14 shows. I might have read that somewhere too.

Also, it's been speculated on here multiple occasions that ed had some vocal cord help. I have to think so. Those philly 09 boots are not a great version of Ed and there are many more in the 09-11 era like that.

Cigs are a huge factor, but I also think that if the band is going to play three hour shows, Ed has gotten to a point where there needs to be a night or two between shows. Back to back three hour nights it a nightmare for him, I would assume.

People love the three hour shows, myself included. But I bet his voice would hold on better if they went back to the 1:45-2:15 sets like in 96-2000.

It's interesting, I love it when pj plays as long as they can, but with other Artists I am "all set" after the two hour mark. Foo's are a great example... Great show, but it gets to feel pretty redundant after so long.

I've always thought the same. For many bands I want to get back home and into bed past 11 haha.

My better half is a speech pathologist and she said that it sounds like Ed is taking better care of his voice recently. He has to if he wants his career to last.

Truth. And maybe stop drinking so much damn alcohol on stage. That dries the shit out of your throat and numbs it a bit.

These things are hard to tell, good Ed could be bad Ed for someone else. Me thinks.

But I feel of the top of my head these years were lowpoints for him; 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013.

But only heard a selection of shows.

That's what I notice too. I feel like there was a sudden improvement in the middle of 2012. When he came back for Missoula he suddenly sounded way better, to the point where I wondered if he'd had some kind of restorative medical treatment.
I don't feel like Eddie's voice was bad in 2013 for any reason other than insanely long shows for that tour, coupled with barely knowing how to sing anything from LB. Some of those LB songs in 2013 were absolute train wrecks, but not because his vocal chords couldn't handle it. He just couldn't find the right key! Although by the end of that tour, on the West Coast, his voice was going because the long long shows were taking their toll. Smoking or no smoking (not that it helps), those marathon shows would batter anyone's voice. That's why so few artists do it. Most singers could never do those kinds of 3+ hour shows, and wouldn't even try. I appreciate the effort from the band, but I think everyone might benefit in the long run if they kept the shows to under 2.5 hours (which is still a super long show), and always tried to have as much time between shows as possible.

I remember listening to the 2012 shows and cringing at his squeakiness and voice cracks. They're still there, but not as much.

Nothing will ever top ed's vocals from 1992-1994. Some of those 94 shows have fantastic performances all around (you are missed, Dave A).

I thought Stockholm 2012 was a lot better than shows previous years.

2005/2006 he sounds great. Same with 2003.

You can notice that he's also starting off the shows with more slower/easier songs to sing (pendulum, nothingman, EWBTC, release ETC) to warm up his voice. The days of starting off with Go are over.
