PTSD

Post traumatic stress is real
last year was hard
we powered through it,
but it has left a scar on my spirit
traumatic, bad events do that
they activate a fear response
and then one has to recover
that’s the opposite of innocence
that mark of difficult experience

how to wash it away?
that’s the question at hand
for, I want to wash my spirit clean
wash away this residual fear that things could go wrong
this left-over cower that
out-of-the-blue, things can go wrong!!
but, being in a peaceful place helps
I feel the ease of it
the space
the time
the new opportunities to be myself
I feel lucky that I learned that out of a harsh place
one can move into a peaceful situation
and focus on cleaning up the hurt
and release memories

I feel myself changing
I feel myself healing
everyday, there’s more space between then and now
today I wonder how long it will take me to reclaim
my unsullied hopeful nature?

What a powerful, brave and hopeful poem, justam. Truly.
“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.

You seem stronger and wiser for it.
A song dedication for unwanted, fading and distant memories.....Rear-view mirror.
I remember when, yeah. I swore I knew everything, oh yeah.

Having felt this pain and this struggle so very recently, I hope you have found your peace or at least the beginnings so that you may continue to heal.
Anything you lose from being honest
You never really had to begin with.

Sometimes it's not the song that makes you emotional it's the people and things that come to your mind when you hear it.
