Have you enjoyed your Summer so far?

Mine has be kind of so-so. It basically rained here in Chicago, the entire month of June. I really wasn't able to get any fishing in due to the constant north winds on Lake Michigan, and the cool temps. Kathy and I did enjoy a nice 4 day weekend in Ohio(nice cabin, fishing, grilling), that was topped off by seeing The Rolling Stones. We have a couple Cubs gamed planned for later in the year, which should be fun. Last weekend was spent in downtown Chicago. We got a fancy schmancy hotel, and pretended we were rich. Every once in a while its nice to be pampered. We went to Lawry's Prime Rib, and enjoyed a nice elegant dinner. Also checked out Navy Pier. Not a bad weekend. I am hoping to get to the pool a few times in the next 4 weeks.

Anyway.
How has YOUR Summer been?

TOO effing HOT!!! I have not enjoyed it one bloody bit!!! The only good thing about my summer is my grandma just moved back here to Oregon from KY....otherwise the whole thing has been one big heat wave of disgusting proportion and we don't have AC!!!

My summer is going great, sunshine, rock show vacation, music festival, my garden is throwing veggies at me. Upcoming: family camping trip, road trip to visit best friend(minus the husband, who is a good friend as well but, sometimes it is nice not to have to worry whether he is being ignored or not) and nephews, more time chillin by the river, friends wedding and just general 'oh yes it's summer kind of stuff'.

    Is that better Speedy? =)

Here in Texas it's always hot.
Thanks for asking, Speedy, but we haven't done much of anything! Looks like no vacation this year. I like your idea of spending a weekend in a nice hotel

    MUCH BETTER!!
    Thank you!

What kind of veggies you have going?
So far my tomatoes are just doing ok, but my jalapenos are kicking some serious ass. My green peppers are once again non-existent. Going to be a few weeks before my green beans and zucchini show up.

That was Kathy's idea. I was all against it at 1st, but I have to tell you it was fun. I guess living in Chicago, you kind of take what it has to offer for granted. We are actually going to do it again in September. Its kind of nice to pretend you are wealthy, if only for a weekend.

Right now I have squash, peas, tomatoes and cukes, my hot peppers, beans, potatoes, kale and cantaloupe are all coming along nicely. My strawberries came in fantastic and now my raspberries are kickin' it nicely as well. I also have a nice accompaniment of herbs helping make everything taste even better.

We weren't going to go anywhere until the fall, then my prince just accepted a new job. We're very excited about it but he'll go straight from the current one to the new one and won't be able to take any time off for six months. So that weekend pretend-to-be-rich sounds really good.

Congrats on the new job, for the Prince! (Prince...Hahaha)
I took 2 weeks off between jobs in June, and it rained every damned day. I was never so depressed in my life! But what can you do? So now I have to work a full year, before I get 2 weeks vacation. But come next July, when my vacation arrives, Kathy and I are going to plan a nice 10 day getaway for my 50th. Well, a belated 50th.

Yeah the 'pretend you are wealthy" weekend worked out. We spent $140 on a dinner for 2, Lobster and Prime Rib, and it was great. Of course that $140 could have bought us 2 weeks worth of groceries, but every once in a while its nice to be pampered.

My summer is going way too quickly! Have had a nice break from badminton and got into doing boot camp instead but the new season is looming fast.

Weather has been unpredictable as usual here in Ireland but we've had some great weather and it's great having the long days.

Summer always makes me feel so nostalgic, I just can't decide if it's happy or sad nostalgia...

My girlfriend and I do this a couple times a year. Pretend we are tourists and get a nice room within walking distance of a few bars or at a casino. Always a good time.

My summer has been stressful up to now but as of yesterday (when the house sale was completed and we drove out of Florida!!) it's getting better.

We made it up to the Smoky Mountains today and it was like reaching heaven. :) This is where we have been vacationing the last few summers so it made a good stop on the way up to the new house.

The next few weeks we get to mix having a bit of summer with setting up the new house in Ohio.
What a relief to finish the project of selling the old house.

He was hoping to take a week off before starting the new job but his current boss said oh no, you have to request time off in advance. Like Glenn knew a month ago that he'd be getting this new job and what the start date would be. :perturbed: Bummer that your vacation got ruined.

I'm definitely going to suggest the pampered weekend.

Other than the soul-crushing move from Brooklyn to a seaside suburban town on the north shore of Massachusetts, I guess it's been OK. Had a week on the Cape earlier. That was nice.

I can't help dreading the nine months of winter that will start in three weeks or so.

Made a similar move from the city to the burbs so I haven't been too crazy about this summer either. Like Speedy said, it rained pretty much all of June in Chicago so that sucked. July was great and hopefully August is even better...

No. I never really do. I enjoy things i do during the summer as I do in all seasons, but there is also always a touch of misery in this season for me. It's just way too hot and I hate it so much. I think I have a bit of a case of SAD to be honest. I don't do it of course, but there is a little piece of me that wants to just crawl into (a cool) bed and hyberbate all summer. I can't wait for summer to be over. As usual.

Summer was fun this year. Kid played ball they July. I had fire night a few time to relax . I'm ready for fall though. Love fall, but the topic is summer.

We're only 1/2 way they it, but school starts in 2 weeks. Pretty early this year. Kind of hosing my Williamsport plans for Little League World Series, but we finalized plans today and we made it work for the first two days.

Kind of. Took a great vacation to the Oregon coast in June, had a great 4th, just got back from a week's vacation with my in-laws, husband's 4 sisters (and all their children and spouses) at Priest Lake, ID. The lake was great, the company and place we rented, not so much.

School starts in about 3 weeks and I'm hoping we can squeeze a quick vacation to the coast in. As always, summer seems to speed by.

Yes. I'll go out on a limb and say that I've had a great summer so far. We have had amazingly dry and sunny weather since May - leading to drought conditions, I know, but it's still been wonderful. I had a relaxing week in the Okanagan with my family, then went on my five day cycle/camping tour along the Kettle Valley Rail Trail with my daughter and two of her friends. We had a fantastic time; beautiful scenery, weather good but not too hot, and the cycling was hard enough to be challenging but not hard enough to be exhausting.

And now I'm back and getting ready to return to work on Tuesday. That part is a bummer.
