Rather see PJ at Red Rocks or the Gorge?

mschostokmschostok Chicago, IL Posts: 858
Would you rather see the guys at Red Rocks or the Gorge? Both are unbelievable outdoor amphitheaters and would surreal to see PJ at either one. They haven't played Red Rocks since the 95' tour so that'd be special to see them there, but the Gorge is the Gorge soo.....

Red Rocks holds less than 10,000 people and is an intimate concert venue while the Gorge and its 20,000+ is more like a festival.

2 nights at the Gorge. One night up close the front, the other night, chill out at the back and enjoy the show taking in the scenery. Perfect.

I'll tell you after I see My Morning Jacket at Red Rocks in a few weeks!!!
That will be my first show at Red Rocks.
I've been to The Gorge several times,
but never had the chance to see Pearl Jam there...
and seeing them at The Gorge is definitely a show I'd love to see!!

At first blush, I'd take Red Rocks because of the intimacy and the smaller venue...but it's tough to beat the Gorge's scenery.

Then you've never been to Red Rocks. I've been to both and even though I've lived in Colorado for 15 years I couldn't pick between the two. Each has it's beautiful scenery that is second to none. Hands down, my top two venues for any show.

If PJ decides to play either venue....it would have to be a 2-3 show run at the Gorge and/or a 4-5 show run at the Rocks due to seating capacity.

Either way....epic and I'd go to either or both. Seen them at the Gorge '05 so if I had to choose it would be Red Rocks. It's built for concerts the way the venue is shaped. I could see reruns of Little House on the Prairie there and enjoy the atmosphere.

Does the Gorge still have the black curtain hanging behind the stage? Saw the two shows in '06 there and it was amazing. Saw pics later with the black curtain hanging and if it's still there, that pretty much ruins the experience. But, as for the question, I'd be thrilled to go to either.

As a big fan of music Red Rocks is on my bucket list to see a concert at one day. It's probably at least a 24 hour drive from here. I've seen 3 shows at the gorge, but if I had to make a choice I'd say Red Rocks because it would give me the perfect excuse to make the road trip.

That being said Red Rocks is a small venue. Could you imagine how hard it would be to secure tickets. ugh! The last time PJ played back to back shows at the Gorge the 2nd one wasn't even sold out (which to be fair is what happens when you make it Saturday/Sunday. People have to work Monday, so Sunday night shows at the Gorge are tough because it's in the middle of nowhere.. you need to go Fri/Sat. People will gladly leave work a few hours early on a Friday :) ).

i finally crossed red rocks off my bucket list this summer. the experience was mind blowing++
it rained, it hailed and they just said it was normal weather for that time of year. did they cancel the show?? hell no! they just wiped off the stage after the downpour then continued on with the show and it ended 45mins later than normal. very cool!
love that red rocks is really close to denver and that there's a party bus service to and from the show...which was an experience in itself. a+. for any music lover. go there.

I plotted it on Google Maps. It's a 21h 34 min drive from the Ferry Terminal. That's less than I thought. The way I drive I can usually knock 10 to 20% off google's estimate. So I could probably do that in 19 to 20 hours :)

I might go check it out next summer. One of my bucket list items is to go to every State (I went to every Canadian province when I was 20, but another bucket list item is to go to all 3 Canadian territories). As I'm on the West Coast I've been to all the easy ones. Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Arizona and technically New York (Niagra Falls, NY - Barely counts :) ).

We're talking about doing a road trip next year. HeaD over to Yellowstone and starting going south. Check out Colorado, Utah, and New Mexico. Be cool if there was something at Red Rocks while I'm going through Colorado. If I end up doing this trip I'll have been to all the Western (of the 48) States. I'll have to keep going further and further out to add new States (or get around to driving up to Alaska).

    but yah Red Rocks!

You should definitely find some time to head to Colorado, it's a beautiful state. Like you mentioned, if you do, make sure to look at the Red Rocks schedule and have the vacation and show run in concert with each other...kill two birds with one stone! But let's hope PJ finds their way there again someday... That'd be a cool 3-day PJ25 weekend...Friday, Saturday, and Sunday!

Gorge would work, but I can't see them doing it at Red Rocks. The venue is intimate which is awesome (and one of the reasons I want to go there). The downside is that there's a reason it's intimate. It only holds 10k people. That's nowhere near big enough to deal with the masses of people that would want to flock to it.

The Gorge holds over 20,000 people. Gives it a leg up for something big and epic. How many people did the venue at pj20 hold?
