Latin America or hold out for 2016?

mwplummwplum Posts: 1,509
Due to changing circumstances, I now have the option of going to the Santiago, B.A., and Brazil shows.

I realize its very hypothetical at this stage, but wonder what others would do given the option. I have limited budget, vacation days, and sympathy from an amazing wife, but I think that will only allow for either this trip or something in 2016.

Assuming the boys get all fired up by the 2016 elections, I'm assuming it could be a big year for them, especially in regard to playing much smaller venues than the S.A. shows. While I get that the energy must be crazy in those massive soccer stadiums, I wonder whether the acoustics, sight lines, etc would be limited. Also, I've been waiting for a return to Atlantic Canada for some time, and it sounds like that could be an option next year as well.

Anyways, very hypothetically, what would you choose?

I'm hoping that a very quiet 2015 means they are saving their energies for a 2016 world tour (broken in to several legs, I don't care) so am crossing my fingers for some European dates so I don't have to travel as far as last two years.

So... I'd hold on. But that's just me...

I'm holding out. A few years ago I would have said go for it. I think it all depends on you (unfortunately!). Have you ever seen Pearl Jam overseas and do you want to? How do you feel about navigating all the international stuff? Are these outdoor venues? How would you feel if you went all the way and it was pouring the whole time? How would you feel if you commited to these shows and then next year PJ announces a full North American tour and you blew your budget on this year's shows? Or vice versa, if you didn't go and PJ did not announce anything for next year? Etc etc etc. Whatever gives you the most violent reaction will also be your answer :)

Thanks, all very good points! Those are all the many factors going on in this internal debate right now. I grew up in Vancouver, so for many years I would just see them in Vancouver or Seattle. Over the past few years, since finishing school, (despite having massive student loans) I've been fortunate enough to see them in the UK, Amsterdam, Australia, and followed the tour last year from Memphis to Denver. Those shows really got me hooked (especially Moline and Milwaukee!!!).

All of these soccer stadiums are outdoors. I'm not too concerned about the potential of rain, but I'd like to get marginally close to the stage without endangering my wife, and the GA's look crazy, so we'd probably end up in expensive seats far back.

Its a hard call holding off, but given then possibility of a big 2016, I'm leaning towards laying off, which is very hard as I have a really impulsive streak.

I was worried they might stick to more conservative set lists, but from looking at 2011 set lists, it looks like they mix it up a lot just as they would on any tour.

    Arghhh...too many considerations, so indecisive

I m all about seeing as many different countries as possible. I say go for South America; at least you know for certain they are playing there. Who knows what will happen next year. Maybe one of the guys will have another addition to their family and only play a handful of shows.
I'll ride the wave where it takes me......

Just watch the shows you've attended on you tube or DVD. Hold out for PJ25 next year... Save money for kick ass time next NA go around. Pay some bills and student loans. Have you seen those SA fans in GA. Holy moly...they're crazy...

I'd do this. Who knows what is round the corner next year, good or bad. Plus I'm sure seeing PJ in SA will be a different experience to seeing PJ anywhere else in the world.

If all you are looking for is a Pearl Jam concert, then go to NYC this year and wait for the 2016 tour.

For me, I've always combined overseas PJ concerts with vacation. Even though PJ's tour dictated most of the cities I went to, I was still 80% excited for vacation/sightseeing/food/beer/etc... and 20% excited for Pearl Jam shows.

If you want to see Pearl Jam then wait until 2016. If you want to have an exciting trip plus have the bonus of seeing Pearl Jam, then go to South America.

I'm with you, always about packaging the vacation with the tour. I should have mentioned that the alternative is this case would be to go to Indonesia in November and spend about 3 weeks surfing and diving, so either option would be amazing.

Good call, I've already got tickets for the ones in Vancouver and Seattle (Benaroya), as he's coming through the Pacific North West on that tour in Sept. Where's he playing AUS/NZ? Same type theatres EV was last time? I was astounded by the State and also (of course) the Opera House!

That's usually my motto too! In this case it's a tough choice as it sounds like 2016 could have everything from PJ25, Gorge, Red Rocks, Canada Tour, Rock n Roll hall of fame inductment.....if even half of that's true I might just buy a bus and follow the whole thing!

My wife is the one who would prefer to go to Asia, so in this situation I think it would be best to give her what she wants. Even though she loves PJ too, she's supported me by coming on so many PJ trips recently, so I really do owe her.

Thanks very much for everyone's help!!! I think I'm going to hold out for 2016.

To all that make it to S.A. Have a great time! I'll look forward too the boots.

i wouldn't go to any huge stadium show anymore. ga areas are insane and for most you are way too far from the action. but to each his own. will they tour in 2016 . maybe. full blown tour , maybe maybe not. i don't get the feeling they want to do a lot of this anymore. not saying they are splitting up , but with young families there are simply other priorities.
