do the letters and numbers engraved on the record between the label and the record hurt your needle?

I don't know how a needle is gonna reach the deadwax unless it bounces out of the lock groove, but if it hits the matrix numbers once it shouldn't be a huge deal, If it happens a bunch of times, yeah its probably gonna cause some problems.

Don't be scared, but when the music stops... lift the tone arm. Still not sure how it would get to the etching on the deadwax.

I have no clue as to how it would get that far either.

If it's a matter of dropping the tone arm after picking it up at the end of the side, I can see how that happens.

Personally I use the arm lift to raise the tonearm before I even go to move it back out. This way if you accidentally drop it, it lands on the luft and wont bounce onto the record possibly damaging the grooves and/or the needle.

Never lift or drop by hand if you have manual lifting lever. Right HB?!?!? :)

    I always use the lever.

Did it slip out of your hand or is your tonearm so light is skipped over the vortex of fun to get to the letter s? If the arm is that light check your weight on your needles instructions. That weight helps reduce wear and skipped ng and needs.to be on par with manufacturing specs. Or were you just worried it would do that?
