Flac...to mp3...to itunes to ipod help...

Lazy, stupid, non tech saavy, call me what you will, but I need some help from the smart people... :-)

In a nutshell....I sent a hard drive to someone and he was kind enough and loaded it with pj shows from 1990 to current which included all of the official boots and aud recording, misc etc......most, if not all of them in flac...here is what I am looking for....

Need a simple flac converter program that I can drag the flac file into the converter....click a button for it to convert it to mp3 and will automatically save it too a folder that I will create on my desktop so I can then drop it to itunes so I can load onto my ipod for my listening pleasure....is there such and easy way? :-)

I use a program called "Switch" to convert FLACS to MP3s. Grab it here: http://www.nch.com.au/switch/index.html

The default settings will change FLACS to MP3s at 128kbps so go to "encoder options" at the bottom left of the program to set the bitrate you want the MP3s to be.

How do I know what the bitrate should be set at? lol....

Well I'm not much of an audiophile so this will be a pretty layman's explanation. 320kbps is the best MP3 bitrate you can get. That's the least compressed an MP3 can be the file size if of course bigger. Anything below 128kbps is unlistenable Having said all that, iTunes will convert higher bitrated songs to an apple format called AAC. And frankly, with good headphones, I think that 128AAC sounds just fine on an iphone or ipod. Since my iPhone doesn't have nearly the space that my computer does, I have iTunes convert all my MP3s to 128AAC for my iPhone. But listening to music on speakers from my computer, I want an MP3 of at least 256kbps.

Really though, you should seek out a second opinion here because I may not know what the heck I'm talking about. All you need to take away is that for me, an MP3 that's automatically converted to 128AAC by iTunes for use on an iPhone/iPod sounds fine to me.

Having a hard time locating "switch 2.01" and the newest version will only allow 5 songs at a time....any other easy converters out there? Thanks

Yeah I PMed ya back, pjtradeking. Gave ya some links to old versions of Switch as well as suggesting http://www.converterlite.com/ which is a program I use for converting video formats but it also does audio.

Yep, dont come here an awful lot anymore...Dont like a lot the newbs and most of the discussions here these days truth be told....But guys like you, MFC, Ledbetterman10 and a few of the other old shcool long timers are still top notch cool people...Cant take the rest of it...lol....how you, brother?

That PONO player has a nice software setup that can convert FLACs to mp3. I use to highest quality ("Extreme, they call it) Variable Bit rate for my iPod, but you can also convert to the Apple ALAC. CD rips are pretty painless as well. I dont have a Pono, but I got an account to buy Hi res FLACs from the PONO store, and I was able to download the full featured PonoMusic World 20 for nada. It's based on the JRiver media center, which is also an option.
