i care about vinyl

when i was young i had some vinyl records. now i have more vinyl than then. i prefer them over iTunes and all them other downloadable files. i love the sound the needle makes as soon as it comes in contact with vinyl. the scent of records is sometimes pleasurable sometimes not so much. digital can't offer that.

The needle part is probably the biggest reason why I don't care for vinyl. But I do love spin the black circle..

I like holding vinyl and having it cover my body...it would take too many CDs to do the same.

I'm pretty sure I get an endorphin rush when I go vinyl shopping, lol. I think that means I am actually addicted to records. =)

I do this, too. Well, maybe not 12 hours, but if I listen, and I mean sit and listen to 3 or 4 records, I feel like I've accomplished something for the day.

If you stare at a CD you see your reflection, as if you are all alone :( . Vinyl is much more inviting :).

It amazes me that a brand new record costs more than $10. Would you spend $20 on a tape?

i buy second hand on the older goodies but the new stuff is just insane and what i am after. when i initially started this up i was only after bands i would listen to growing up like PJ, STP, SG, Pumpkins, zepplin, acdc, and The Hip. As the pricing on the original releases are insane i had to wait for the re-issues which cost $25+

Oh well i'll suck it up and get on with it.... be more happy with a $20 price tag but whos gonna listen when they are capitalizing on the new surge in vinyl sales.

I live for vinyl. PJ's love of the format is a big reason I'm a member here.

Even if you don't find the sound quality of vinyl to be better it is certainly superior in terms of appreciation for the album format. About a year and a half ago I got tired of watching my kids grow up in the digital world. Even though I have a huge digital library they only accessed streaming services and downloaded singles here and there. So I dusted off my old records, bought a new turntable and made it accessible to them all. Almost immediately they began to listen to music in a whole new way. I don't think they truly hear the difference in the sound but they can now "touch" the music and "see" the artists through the artwork. They now sit and listen to whole albums from end to end. About a month ago my 12 year old asked for her own turntable so that she can listen to records in her room with her friends so I went out and bought an inexpensive crosley for her birthday. That crosley is definitely not a quality sound machine even compared to her ipod but it allows her to engage with the music in a far more satisfying way. Not only that but I went up to her room this week and on her floor are albums by The Guess Who, Simon and Garfunkle, and The Who...she is exploring albums that would be lost among the 1's and 0's of the digital world. In the end this is what listening to music should be all about.

The crazy thing is I got into vinyl in the 90s because it was the cheapest way to purchase music.

The fact that most new vinyl comes with a digital dowload has made the switch back very easy. I'm happy to spend an extra 10-15 buck over the itunes price to get both.

No, but I also wouldn't spend $1 on a tape either. Cassettes and vinyl aren't even close to comparable.
Although back in the day when tapes were the big thing, they definitely did cost the equivalent of $20 now. I remember new albums on cassette were going for $10 - $12 CND. And i bought them... not even sure how. I guess with babysitting money, lol.

I love vinyl too. I grew up listening to my Dad's records and the best decision I ever made was to make sure I purchased new albums on vinyl when my friends were buying tapes. It meant that I bought Ten in 91 and have bought every PJ album on its release day ever since, Benny and Lost Dogs included. I would hate to be getting into vinyl nowadays with some of the prices that are being quoted out there.

Listening to music while doing chores or hobbies is left to iPod on shuffle. But when I want to experience the music, be a part of it, best sound, as a piece of work (full set ) I go for vinyl. Hearing that sound when needle drops on record then closing cover to get in front of some good speakers. Yummy.

    NEED YIELD ON VINYL.

Hear ya Last 12 but when I think people pay a buck a song on iTunes and it's a file that can be lost have no problem justifying buying records. CDs are best overall value though.
