Yeah...I am a fan also. Is it perfect? No. Could it ever be with all of the members and all of their individual wants & desires? No. Still...look at the community that has sprung up around the club. Amazing people...generous, concerned, good souls. I have met some really great folks at shows and here in the forums. Are there a few bad apples? Yeah. We are nothing but a microcosm of the world. Still...I am thankful that the club exists and very thankful for the benefits the club offers to us.
You guys are a bunch of suck ups to tenclub. BTW, tenclub is awesome and the best ever...
If I were to try and do my best to make an objective assessment I would say the Metclub (Metallica Fan Club) has been the best one I've been a member of. 10c is one of the best, but they definitely seem to struggle from being a smaller operation. The Single gets out (eventually), aside from the xmas single the membership items are meh, shipping is horibbly expensive takes months for things to get to Canada, and there's way more members than available tickets (and it keeps growing), etc..
Metclub seems well organized. It's about $10 more than a 10c membership. You get 4 magazines that seem to come out like clockwork. They aren't like Deep, they are full magazines for club members. The magazines show up in two weeks (like any mail from the US should). It's way easier to get tickets for events through them (maybe because the club is smaller).
I will say that ten club members are pretty awesome, but I wouldn't say the fan club itself is the best run one I've joined. The worst ones i've joined are the ones that charge the same as the 10c (50 bux USD), send you some crappy trinkets (not even a vinyl or magazine) and it's basically a cash grab to try and pimp out fan club tickets. I think fan clubs like KISS, ACDC etc.. do this.
The one i would give kudos to for most improved is the U2 fan club. It's $50/yr the first time, then $40 to renew (which makes it cheaper than 10c). They basically give out one gift a year. Most of the time it's pretty good. There was the U22 double live CD yet, the next year was hardcover book from the tour with an additional live disc. This year it's vintage live concert on vinyl. Tickets have also been easy to obtain. I've easily gotten GA tickets for the past 4 tours. I think they use fanfire to run their fanclub, so it's quite a shock it's run so well. They had some growing pains in the first year (the tour in the early 2000s) but ever since it's been great.
That's my opinion anyways. I obviously compare the 10c to other fan clubs I join. Most of them I join in the years they tour to get decent tickets, but some I keep up my renewels on.
Yeah. I've been in U2 club off and on. They give access code for advanced ticket purchases thru ticketmaster but you can only get 1 show for the tour, including out of country. I've done GA for U2 each time I've seen them in the US. The best was the vertigo tour, where the second time they scanned the ticket got us into the pit in the ellipse. Was like 4th row back between Edge and Bono. But they are big with social media, more so than PJ. Can you imagine the uproar if tenclub only allowed tickets to be purchased for 1 show?
