The records that i do have in my Vault 4 set sound really good.
My PJ wish is a Steve Hoffman supervised MOFi release of their first 6 albums....
I don't think the Hoff works with MofI and in general I'm underwhelmed by his work (and his weirdo cult), but I'll totally get behind MoFi reissues of the catalog.
I'm curious how many of the "unlistenable records with pops and scratches" are the result of a poorly set up system? And how many are truly defective? With the resurgence of vinyl there's a lot of turntables, good and bad, that are poorly set up from the factory...I wonder how many people have invested the time into getting things set up properly. It makes a HUGE difference.
I'm willing to bet the number of defective copies is extremely small compared to the number pressed.
My copy was perfect. I have zero complaints. And even if it did have scratches, I sure wouldn't be blaming the band or their fan club.

Obviously I disagree, since they are the ones choosing shitty manufacturers and also not ensuring QC, and it is their product they're selling. This is the same as saying, oh no, that's okay that my Nikes fell apart after a week. It's not Nike's fault they sold me a bad product. It's the fault of the sweatshop in Cambodia.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata
thank you lotsalemon. i've been reading and wondering how long it would take someone to bring up how a shitty setup can affect sound quality. as far as mixed discs packed... no good explanation for that. most definitely, not 100% of that blame can be placed on 10c, period. should they shoulder the blame with the manufacturer? fuck yes. have they done so this far for the most part? fuck yes. furthermore, i am sure beyond the shadow of a doubt, that there are literally thousands of good stories about vault 4 that we don't hear about.
I guess. I just think some are being unreasonable. I really don't know what people expect the 10c to do? Listen to every record? pay someone to listen to every record?
It is not my setup. Disc 1 Side A is trash. It came with scratches on it. It pops and cracks and there are skips throughout God's Dice. Light Years is similarly noisy. Disc 2 and 3 and not bad.
I don't expect 10C to listen to every record or whatever, I just expect a replacement.
Do you think the coaches asked marshawn if he wanted to run the ball and he just said "I'm just here so I don't get fined" and that's why they decided to throw it on 2nd and goal?
Can someone explain why my other 40 records play with no horrible skips (minus a couple of the 30 year old records), yet you try and say its my setup causing the pops? Seems to me to be poor quality assurance, not my record player
trust me, it is NOT my turntable or setup....
it might just need a really good cleaning... I am going to try that when I get the time....but
I think there were quite a few bad ones in the mix based on what I am seeing on the boards.
I think they used a shitty Pressing Plant, unfortunately.... they are batting 1 for 3 in the more recent vinyl releases.

I'm pretty sure Vault 3 and 4 were pressed at the same plant. They probably went back for Vault 4 because 3 turned out real well. Maybe they will think different next time, but up until these isolated issues, 10c had no reason to believe this plant was shitty.

Yeah, I don't know much about the European plant,
but I know UPI where LB was pressed is pretty shitty. all the records I have from there have defects of some kind including Gas Light Anthem and the original Vault edition Lazaretto. Third Man was nice enough to send a replacement ASAP. hopefully 10club will be as helpful.

Anyone have any luck getting a confirmation that they'll replace defective discs?
I have a big white gash in "BLACK" on side B of record #1:
along with some pretty deep scratches on the first 3 songs on side E of record #3.
I sent an e-mail earlier today explaining these issues,
along with pictures of the damaged records & got this response back from Santos:

Replacement discs are in queue.

They are aware that there are issues with quality control...
& they responded pretty quickly to my letter!!

I'm not saying they don't need to make issues right (This is a perfect example and same with LB), but blaming them for the mistake is silly.
