I have a bunch of audio shit in spread out in different rooms. I store all of my computer audio files (524gb (and counting) worth of mp3s, wmas, and flacs) on a network attached storage unit in the basement. At the main computer work station I use the Sennheiser HD 280 pros straight plugged into the headphone jack. It probably could use some dedicated amplification...
In the living room, I have a home theater setup. Sony STR-DG1000 This ES quality unit is great for HDMI 5.1 processing but also has dedicated "2 channel" and "analog direct" settings that bypass all of the effects and processing. It's also super loud. Bose Acoustimass 10 "Bose hate" if you want to, I hear and have no problem with the satellite/subwoofer setup. Windows 7 tower with a M-Audio Audiophile 2496 soundcard. This allows a 24/96 coaxial connection or Analog RCA connection directly into and out of the receiver. I used to use the blu-ray player alot, but not so much anymore. I do record analog tapes and LPs into the machine, using Sound Forge 10 Pro by Sony and Technics SL-L92 direct drive turntable, (caution...this video is sleep inducing, and most def not me....) Grado M1+ cart Nakamichi DR-8 cassette the aforementioned Pioneer Elite DV-37 for CD
In another room I have second system as well...more about that later.
First album I listened to on these was No Code. It was well worth the $88.

I just got a pair of Audio Technica ATH-M50x. These sound GREAT! Huge improvement over my Bose ear buds. It's like I'm listening to albums for the first time. There's so much detail and clarity!

My m50x's blew a driver today after 2 weeks. Petty disappointing. Exchanged them for a poo Air of beyer dynamics 770's. So far they sound better than the m50's.

It's only $100 off now, so not a great deal.
I run quite a few Pioneer Elite components, so I am partial to Pioneer.
This is not the Elite line, so it loses some of the features, but it is Class D which gives it better transformers, capacitors, inductors, etc. It will run cooler and more efficiently.
It can stream and decode 24/96 (and higher) so your 24 bit HD PJ shows should flow fine.
One negative with the non-Elite is that it is only 2 zone. If you bi-amp your speakers, that gives you zero extra zones, which is a bummer. I don't bi-amp but still run three separate zones for my setup. Using this + two amps gives me plenty of power to spare for the 4 ohm speakers.
Sound quality is not as strong as the Elite line IMO, but unless you're running Magnepan or other very high end speakers, I'm not sure you would notice.
If this was really going for $500, it would be a very good deal if you were in the market for a new AV.
Thanks for the head's up.

I got a pair of these Pioneers that were all the rage a few years back. They were like $60 or something. For my first foray into headphones, they were worth the money. Everything I connect them to sounds better - phone, laptop, receiver. I look forward to getting my turntable back up and running soon!

Thanks. It's actually funny cuz I must've tried about 30ish headphones but i skipped that one. It was missing one of the ear cups so I assumed it was broken. I was in there for over two hours before I was approached by a sales guy who showed me these on like the 6th-ish try. Then I made him go away while I listened to a few songs off the Leeds and Oslo boots to make extra-super-sure that I liked them. Then those damn bohemians that were stalking my life stole him.
I killed my phone battery trying to find headphones. That says something.
But anyway they were $200, I got a protection plan cuz I'm a tool, they work with my phone with the little remote thing (which i'm never going to use) and they fold - which is more important to me than it should be. Came with a little carry bag too. Oh and the wire disconnects. Not sure if I should be expecting to replace it then but. I'm just happy I have good headphones finally.

I've learned two things about my new Senns. #1 is they double as earmuffs in this freezing weather, so plus. #2 is they are apparently noise cancelling - I didn't even have the volume up that high and I realized I couldn't hear my keys jangling in my hand while walking through the lobby. Gonna have to be extra alert/careful now. Not really thrilled about that.
