Your favourite thing about the 1998 tour?

Listening to a superb bootleg from St.Louis (a hometown show for me) and holy shit man! That EV growl....I love Matt's balls to the wall drumming. I don't think he was bashing them like he has said in past interviews. Ok, my favourite thing about that tour...I saw 4 shows and my favourite part was EVs 1991 Air Jordans...

Setlists. 25 songs is the perfect length and it was all from the first 5 albums.

That and the Posters were insane

It was such a unique tour. The shows were a combination of raw energy mixed in with a band that had been going strong for several years at that point, so they were also a little refined. They were also starting to become comfortable in their own skin with regards to being a touring band. Plus Ed was moving on from being introverted/cynical Ed to being cool/sarcastic Ed.

It was before the internet was everywhere. The online community was still very small. That was the last tour you can say that about as far as I am concerned. I miss that.

It was also before the crowd sang along to so many songs without being prompted as they do now. Back then you sang along when Ed coaxed you to for the most part. Now like 1/2 the songs are a 20k person chorus (which is fun, but it changes the dynamic of the show).

And the setlists started to really become a thing of beauty. I believe this is the first tour Ed started crafting setlists with the crowd in mind, all of the time.

And any time you saw Brain of J it was going to rip your face off.

    I saw 3 shows. Wish I saw 30.

i just remember the 98 tour being so relaxed compared to 96. the boys were actually having fun.

I loved the 98 tour. Went to six shows... Alpine 1 and 2, Chicago, St. Louis, Kansas City, and Indianapolis. So many great memories. Being twenty years old and road tripping with a few friends to new cities. Best Pearl Jam tour ever. And great posters. Still have my St. Louis poster from 1998. I need to get that framed!
Do you know what it's like to fall in the mud and get kicked... in the head... with an iron boot? Of course you don't, no one does. It never happens. Sorry, Ted, that's a dumb question... skip that.

4 shows and deciding on the spur of the moment to attend Knoxville.
rewarded with Hard to Imagine in the encore....
Only played 3 times that tour.
first time I realized that there were other fans like me that would travel around on short runs. talking with the same people show after show.
recording the show on my Sony cassette recorder and listening to them on the way to the next show.
best tour ever by the band....

It was really a return. I know in many cities they hadnt played there since 93. And if they had it was an annoying field or something.

It was nice to get bootlegs in the mail every few days. Maxell XL II's!!!

man, I seriously decided to blow off work and go to the Knoxville show.
I just had a feeling that they were gonna play it.
was my fave at the time.
I could never do that nowadays.
    I miss the 90s, man.

oh yeah. and I forgot the Oceans opener in Greenville.
I was on the rail GA in front of Mike.
Mike laid down on the subwoofers right in front of me. I literally could've reached out and de-tuned his guitar.
That was my second show in the front row so I guess he recognized me. I was wearing some ridiculous wig to all the shows...
Jeff even pointed to me right before Indifference and mouthed WTF??
Man, you guys got me all nostalgic.... :x

I saw three shows on the Yield tour. Missoula, Vancouver, and Seattle II. Missoula was my first actual Pearl Jam show. Prior to that my only PJ experience was at Lolla '92 in Vancouver. A highly energetic show, but I wasn't super familiar with Ten yet, and the set was fairly short. I often consider Missoula to be my first real PJ show.

The Yield tour had this crazy energy to it. Pearl Jam exploded onto the scene in the early 90s but the Vitalogy tour fell apart, and the No Code tour was small. Pearl Jam was hugely popular but there was a decently sized gap between proper tours. This created this big pent up demand and energy because so many people hadn't managed to see them before the Yield tour.

It's still my favourite tour. They were still young enough to have that raw energy on stage, but old enough that they had 5 kickass albums to lean on. I was watching the Single Video Theory DVD not long ago and I forgot how young they still were on that tour. Crazy.

edit: The opener in Missoula was a band called Goodness which had one of the people from Heart in it. Frank Black opened Vancouver, and Wallflowers/Sean Lennon opened Seattle.
