When is Pearl Jam eligible? IMO Pearl Jam should get in way before NIN and especially before Green Day. And explain to me how NWA is rock and roll.

  • 4th line in the article...."In order to be eligible for nomination, a music act had to release its first recording in 1989 or earlier."

Ten was released August 1991, so eligible in 2016.

There are plenty of other hip-hop / rap groups in the HOF, e.g. Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, Run-D.M.C., Grandmaster Flash, as well as pop-stars, e.g. Michael Jackson, Madonna. It's not about genre, it's about music...

Way before NIN? You need to review your band history.

NWA, SRV, Joan Jett, Sting, Lou, The Smiths, The Marvellettes, and The Spinners all get my vote.
I have more of a problem with NIN and Green Day than NWA or Chic.

How did the Replacements get dropped from the ballot? They deserve it before Nirvana, Pixies, PJ, Green Day, basically anyone

My bad, I thought you were talking about eligibility, as NIN's first album came out before PJ's first album.

Seeing Tom Petty on the list of eligibles...must be his solo work.

  • Well they need some big names in there so Green day and NIN fit the bill, are still touring, will show up and are still relevant to the people that care about the RNRHOF.

The Smiths and Sting sure as hell ain't showing up.

And how is Ani Difranco left off the nominees list. She is the only other artist on that list that I could consider, well maybe Petty's solo career too.

A lot of hair bands on that list, very bad ones at that...

War was nominated. I think they deserve to go in.

    Deep purple.

The Paul Butterfield blues band gets my vote. Although not a household name, they were a black and white blues outfit out of Chicago in the 60's. Mike Bloomfield, was their hotshot guitarist along with Elvin Bishop. They brought blues into the U.S. consciousness in the 60's. They also backed Dylan when he went electric at the Newport folk festival in 1965.

if you like electric blues and harmonica playing, check out their self titled debut (1965) and East West (1966). Highly recommended!

I started reading down the lists of people who were eligible prior to this year and I only made it through 2013 (for 2014). Parliament is a band that played an essential role in the funkadelic genre and whether you like the band or not, the artist's influence on music in general is part of the decision process. Not saying they should be inducted, just thought of that element upon seeing their name.

I like certain bands and artists on the lists but realize that they don't approach RARHOF status But Jeff Healy (The Jeff Healy Band is the accurate listing, as people wrote in the comments section), will always be a band that stands above others that I like for many reasons. Sadly, if they were inducted, they would be missing their talented front man on acceptance, but I would absolutely vote for their induction..

Mother Love Bone is eligible so I assume that Temple of the Dog and Pearl Jam will both be eligible in the same year? Interesting.

    THIS!

Mother Love Bone has no business being in there, not by a long shot.

Bon Jovi should be in there. Not my cup of tea, but they should.

There are a pocket full of homegrown punk/hardcore bands that should be in there too like The Bad Brains, The Misfits, Minor Threat and The Dead Kennedys. These 4 bands started movements, music and spawned hundreds of other bands. If the Sex Pistols got in then these guys should have some consideration.

    Motorhead too?

    ^^ Yes, please.

I do disagree in a way with MLB. I do believe (my own opinion) that they had a larger impact on how music evolved than with Green Day. Green Day just isn't my cup of tea. MLB was a brief, but powerful stepping stone in music.

Could you imagine Lemmy at the induction ceremony?

I don't particularly care for Green Day, so I'm kind of bummed about that one.

Yes indeed the bad brains belong in the hall. Chris is 100% correct, they made a movement, a very powerful one at that.

Tom Petty isn't in? Also Garth Brooks seems like an obvious choice. I'm not a huge country fan, and I know it isn't Rock and Roll, but the guy has sold 190,000,000 records (albums, singles, and video), and has six albums that have been certified diamond (10x platinum). That doesn't happen by accident.
