I know people that did it, and the songs they did it to. The only direct response the band made was to start playing Last Kiss to the fans in the back, because that became the most common song to turn your back on.

    this sounds made up.

It is not at all made up. I don't really care either way, people can believe whatever they want. It happened, and it was a VERY small number of people and it didn't happen with any consistent regularity. Specific songs were Small Town and Last Kiss.
Turn your back on Small Town. That's just ignorant.

    call them f*ers out. >:) j/k

how many times has the band played last kiss to the the back? i only know of the last london show. if it's true, that is pretty hilarious of the band to "play to the back/turn their backs" in response to the dillholes. :-bd
They've played last kiss to the back a lot of times. I know there was Missoula 2012, but I remember seeing other setlist in recent years too. I have the impression that they've done it a lot. Enough so that I've heard people say, "I'll bet you anything they play last kiss to the back". ;)

What will they do if it's an amphitheater or there aren't any seats sold behind the stage?
    I guess it is a "kiss"-less set???

in 03 the tickets were distributed in blocks based on seniority, you didn't have assigned seats like now. so while the same people would be in the same area, it was not necessarily the same people in the same seats to be able to do this.

also, a lot of night 2 shows, i know camden for example, didn't have 10C seats because they were added later.

I was at a few shows in 2003 and asked some other long time fans...

I am in the top ten in terms of seniority and have been front row at many shows including MSG. The fact that the lower number folks tend to be around 50 like me does contribute to less total rocking out than the 20 year old crowd. That said; we still jump around as much as we can and there are usually some people up front who work to get everyone else moving. I highly doubt more than one person ever turned their back on PJ; and that was probably to wave to someone they knew.

Definitely done it a lot. I'm pretty sure anytime it's on the set list it's played to the back. Also in either Pittsburgh or Buffalo last year (can't believe I can't remember which) they played Small Town to the back. Coincidence? I'd say, probably.

  • 03 i was at about 20 or so shows and i never saw this and nobody in the lines at the next show talked about it...Granted i was on Stone's side mostly and who dares to turn their back on Stone. ^:)^

Ive heard boots where they simply dedicate a song to the people behind Matt. I think obsessive fans without lives very well could have turned their back but its not why the band did.
