John Mellencamp Confused By Lukin

In the latest issue of Rolling Stone, they played 5 songs for John Mellencamp and asked for his "Expert Opinion" on each. Lukin was the third song played.

"I think Eddie Vedder is a wonderful songwriter, but I'm not sure I'm really getting what he's trying to say on this one. But I do know he's capable of saying things I can't."

Even though, to me, Lukin's message is pretty clear

That's the thing. Lukin isn't mysterious. I don't understand why he wouldn't get it.... unless he actually couldn't understand the words of the song at all, lol.

I think Mellencamp is a great artist and I like the way he articulated his thoughts. I think if you were new to this song, with Rolling Stone asking for your thoughts it would be pretty tough -- he may not know the stalker inference after all.
    Nicely done by JM.

Lukin himself is probably confused by Lukin.

Love JM! He's a class act, done some nice work outside of his music - which I dig too...the older stuff though.

(never got the whole "Cougar" thing...glad he dropped it)

To me, Lukin's like a quickie headbang.

    This version, mmm hmm.

    Gotta love lukin!

I'm not a Mellencamp fan at all but his thoughts were honest in that he doesn't get the song, but still complimentary towards Ed as an artist; I thought it was very well said.

I've never seen so much time spent analyzing, interpreting, and reviewing a Rolling Stone fluff piece.

Oh c'mon, it's barely one page's worth of comments. And benign, especially amid other shit.

    Lighten up, mookey.

Really? There's like ten responses, none of which are too elaborate. :-? I'm sure if you dug a little bit you could find more.

I saw JM at the Theater at Madison Square Garden in NYC years ago. It was an awesome show.

I saw Mellencamp a few years ago. Great show. It was kind of Bob Dylan esque- changed a few songs around, but a great show( that's what Dylan does to his songs). It was cool that his tour manager came out back and let us get our stuff signed too.

once i finally knew the lyrics to the song then it made sense, but before that i was clueless. and boy was I off on most of the lyrics... I understand his comments.
Further back and forth a wave will break on me, today...
