what song should PJ and The Replacements jam out to?

cp3iversoncp3iverson Posts: 8,640
The most legendary band of the 80s and my favorite band from the 90s playing back to back at ACL??? They have to share the stage somehow!

Im guessing they could talk Paul into it by rocking out to either a 50s tune (a Buddy Holly one maybe) or maybe a Ramones song. Im sure all of the PJ guys are Replacements fans. I could see Eddie singing Left of the Dial.

Make it happen!

Another good choice! I know Tommy Stinson has said nice things about PJ in the past.
Last ACL Ed brought out Ben and Perry. The Mats would be the ultimate treat.

    And gaslight right before!

    And Jenny Lewis, Spoon, etc.
Definitely the best single day festival lineup ive seen maybe since the Tibet98 fest

Back in the day the Replacements used to play Sonic Reducer a lot. Definitely some common ground on that one!

Speaking of the Mats, I've seen them twice on this reunion tour and they are incredible. (Full disclosure: the Tim version of Can't Hardly Wait is my all-time favorite song). Paul looks and sounds great and their guitar sound is massive, especially if BJA is still playing with them and they're rolling three deep. There is nothing quite like sharing that opening scream/yell on Bastards of Young with a few thousand other folks at a festival. Very envious of all of you going to ACL!

Stone just challenged The Replacement's drummer to the icebucket challenge.

    We're getting closer.....

Josh is playing with the Replacements? Cool!

Also, the Tim version of Can't Hardly Wait is far far superior to Pleased version. Good call.

I'm starting to think i need to go to ACL. I already have tix for PJ, and for Spoon in MI, but add in the rest of that weekend (Broken Bells, St Vincent, Outkast, Em, Replacements, Sam Smith…Hell, i'd check out Lana Del Rey even…) and i'm kinda intrigued….

I'm thinking Tommy and Paul on Sonic Reducer, and Britt Daniel on maybe RIFTW…or something cooler

    ;)

    cheers

DYK there's actually a band called the Tim version, based on that song?! Man it rocks ass.

ACL looks awesome, you should go if possible! If Paul and Tommy came out... Woah! You know the Mats also used to play black diamond a lot. There's quite a bit of overlap there... I know Jeff is a fan.

Since both bands at one point had an anti-video stance, this song seems perfect.

To be honest PJ following the Mats will be tough on them but if anyone can do it PJ can.
